Chapter 044: The Seven-Colored Spirit Rainbow
Watching Lin Le’s sharp demeanor, Liang Qiuyang couldn’t help but purse his lips. The young man’s composure and maturity far surpassed what Liang Qiuyang would expect from a seventeen or eighteen-year-old. But perhaps it was no wonder; who would imagine that this teenager was, in truth, a cultivator carrying five centuries of legendary memories? Lin Le’s mind was not something his peers could even hope to compare to.
Lin Le had just tucked the insect back into his pocket when his phone suddenly rang. He had only turned it back on after leaving the Tang family earlier.
“Hello, who is this?” Seeing the unfamiliar number, Lin Le hesitated, but eventually answered.
“Is this Mr. Lin?” The voice was somewhat familiar.
“Yes, and you are…?”
“This is Jia Shimao. We met at the hospital before.”
Lin Le immediately recalled who it was.
“Oh, Director Jia! What can I do for you?” Lin Le was genuinely surprised; he hadn’t expected that the medical authority of Haizhou would call him.
“It’s like this, Mr. Lin. Ever since I witnessed your Qihuang Guiding Technique at the hospital, I have been deeply impressed by your medical skills. I hope we could become friends, if you wouldn’t mind?” Jia Shimao’s tone was exceedingly polite.
“Well… It’s my honor to become acquainted with a master of medicine as respected as yourself, Director Jia!” Lin Le knew enough of Jia Shimao’s character to respect him. His medical skills and ethics were renowned throughout Haizhou, so Lin Le didn’t mind befriending such a man.
“That’s wonderful!” Jia Shimao seemed caught off guard by Lin Le’s ready acceptance. Truth be told, he’d been worried that Lin Le might refuse because of his attitude that day at the hospital.
Jia Shimao had spent decades immersed in medicine, obsessed with its mysteries. In particular, he was deeply passionate about the ancient medical arts of China. In the modern era, Western medicine dominated, and the native medical traditions—once the pride of the nation—had been battered and were fading from view. Jia Shimao’s hope was to revive those ancient arts, to show their astonishing power to the world once more.
Unfortunately, the available literature on those arts was desperately scarce, which had left him discouraged more than once. Yet the appearance of Lin Le, who was versed in the Qihuang Guiding Technique, had rekindled his hope.
Thus, Jia Shimao tried everything he could, setting aside his pride as a medical authority just to make Lin Le’s acquaintance, even though he was but a high school student.
“I was wondering, Mr. Lin, if you might have some free time. I’d like to invite you to dinner, and perhaps ask you in person about some questions I have regarding ancient medicine,” Jia Shimao invited.
“Other than school hours, I’m free whenever. Why don’t you arrange it as you see fit, Director Jia, and let me know?”
“Excellent! As soon as I have things arranged, I’ll let you know.” Jia Shimao’s voice trembled with excitement. Though Lin Le’s attitude toward Tang Nianchen and Qu Junchu earlier hadn’t been very cordial, he had always treated Jia Shimao with courtesy. Things were progressing far more smoothly than Jia Shimao had anticipated.
“Well, I won’t keep you any longer. Goodbye for now.” Jia Shimao was about to hang up.
“Wait,” Lin Le suddenly called out. “About what happened at the Tang family today…”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Lin. I would never reveal your identity to anyone,” Jia Shimao assured him, immediately understanding Lin Le’s concern.
“However, after you left the Tang family, I overheard Young Master Qu Junchu vowing to investigate your background and cause you trouble. I suggest you be careful,” Jia Shimao warned.
“Thank you for the warning, Director Jia. I’ll be careful.”
After hanging up, Lin Le sneered inwardly. Qu Junchu, you still want to make trouble for me? Come, I’m waiting for you!
The Lincoln carried Lin Le northward through the city. An hour later, the car finally arrived near Longyuan Lake. As soon as they reached the foot of Dragon’s Breath Mountain, Gu Ya called.
“Hello, Lin Le, where are you now?” Gu Ya’s voice was clearly brimming with excitement.
“We’re already at Dragon’s Breath Mountain. What’s going on?” Lin Le asked.
“The excavation is finished. I think you should come see for yourself as soon as possible!” Gu Ya’s urgency was palpable, as if there was something she couldn’t wait to show him.
“Did you manage to dig it up?” Lin Le asked anxiously, worried that whatever lay buried beneath the villa might have harmed them.
“No, but… You’ll understand when you get here.” Gu Ya sounded unable to explain over the phone.
“All right, we’ll be there soon.”
Ten minutes later, as the Lincoln approached the mountain’s summit, Liang Qiuyang suddenly cried out, “Mr. Lin, look at that!”
Lin Le looked ahead in the direction Liang Qiuyang indicated. The sight that met his eyes left him stunned.
Atop Dragon’s Breath Mountain, a seven-colored ring of light circled the summit—a massive, circular rainbow, enveloping the entire villa within its arc.
When Lin Le and Liang Qiuyang got out and approached the villa, the scene was even more astonishing. The seven-colored halo hung visibly in the air, close enough to touch. Bathed in this prismatic glow, the mountaintop seemed otherworldly, like a dream made real.
“Mr. Lin, could that be…” Liang Qiuyang’s voice trembled with disbelief as he realized what it was.
“That’s right, this is the ‘Seven-Colored Spiritual Rainbow.’” Lin Le cradled the rainbow-hued light in his hands, his voice quivering.
Excitement surged within him. The Seven-Colored Spiritual Rainbow was a rarity in the world—not just a spectacle, but a phenomenon of immense significance. Its formation was similar to that of a regular rainbow, but here, it appeared when an overwhelming surge of spiritual energy was released, much like the way a rainbow forms in the sky after a storm.
The reason such a rainbow had appeared atop Dragon’s Breath Mountain was that something buried beneath the summit had been disturbed, causing the long-suppressed spiritual energy to escape and create this wondrous sight.
What thrilled Lin Le most was the immense benefit such a phenomenon could bring to a cultivator. Compared to the so-called treasures of heaven and earth, the Seven-Colored Spiritual Rainbow was vastly more powerful. With his current cultivation, if he could harness the power of this rainbow, his abilities might reach new heights.
Just as this thought sent excitement coursing through him, the Seven-Colored Spiritual Rainbow in the air suddenly flickered and vanished.
This was because the object buried atop the mountain had not been fully unearthed. The rainbow had appeared only as a result of the excavation disturbing it, causing a temporary leak of spiritual energy.
Lin Le and Liang Qiuyang entered the courtyard, where a mound several meters high stood at its center—the earth that had been dug from below.
Lin Le could clearly sense that the air was now richer in spiritual energy, the former oppressive atmosphere much relieved—a direct result of the rainbow’s recent appearance.
“Little friend Lin.” Gu Huaishan greeted him.
Lin Le replied and walked to the edge of the excavation. According to his instructions, a ten-meter-deep pit had been dug using drilling equipment; it was a nearly one-meter wide cylindrical shaft, like a massive well, its depths shrouded in darkness.
“Now what do we do?” Gu Huaishan asked.
“Don’t worry. Leave the rest to me.”
Without another word, Lin Le leaped forward and plunged straight into the ten-meter-deep pit!
