Chapter 038: This Is My Fiancée, Lin Le
The man appeared to be in his early twenties, dressed in a casual suit of exquisite tailoring, clearly expensive at a glance. His features were remarkably handsome, reminiscent of those popular stars from Japan and Korea. If he were to walk down the street, he would surely attract a crowd of admiring girls. Yet now, that handsome face was twisted in anger as he looked at Lin Le with undisguised arrogance.
From the moment Lin Le saw this man, his brow furrowed involuntarily—he recognized him. He was Qu Junchu, the eldest son of the Qu family in Haizhou.
In terms of wealth and assets, aside from the Tang family, the Gu family, and the Hou family of the Wanli Group, the Qu family was next in line, ranking among the top five in Haizhou. In terms of influence and connections, the Qu family was second only to the Gu family, making them an undeniable force in the city. Overall, their power and resources were virtually unmatched in Haizhou.
The reason Lin Le knew Qu Junchu was because Qu Junchu had always regarded Lin Le as his romantic rival. Qu Junchu had long harbored deep feelings for Tang Nianchen. Even after Tang Nianchen had explicitly rejected him, he refused to give up. And ever since he learned of the ridiculous engagement between Tang Nianchen and Lin Le, Qu Junchu’s attitude toward Lin Le turned utterly hostile.
Whenever they crossed paths in high society circles, Qu Junchu would try everything to ostracize Lin Le, and their encounters always ended on a sour note. Later, when the Lin family went bankrupt, Qu Junchu was one of those who kicked Lin Le while he was down.
So, seeing Qu Junchu appear before him again, Lin Le’s heart was instantly filled with resentment.
“I’m talking to you. What do you think you’re doing? Who the hell are you? How dare you barge into Uncle Tang’s hospital room!” Qu Junchu’s eyes fell on Lin Le and Liang Qiuyang, sizing them up with suspicion, as if convinced they couldn’t possibly be upstanding people.
“How can you speak like that…” Liang Qiuyang, accustomed to respect wherever he went, was furious to be mistaken for a scoundrel.
But before Liang Qiuyang could question him, Lin Le snapped back unceremoniously, “Are you blind? Can’t you see I’m treating Mr. Tang right now!”
Liang Qiuyang pursed his lips. He had planned to scold Qu Junchu for his rudeness, but Lin Le’s retort was even more cutting. Still, Liang Qiuyang felt a sense of satisfaction—given his status, he could not argue with a youngster like Qu Junchu, but Lin Le’s outburst vented his own anger for him.
“You…” Qu Junchu was momentarily stunned.
He had judged the two by their attire, assuming their social rank was low and so saw no need for courtesy, but he hadn’t expected such brazen defiance.
“Do you even know who I am? How dare you speak to me like that!” Qu Junchu tried to use his identity to suppress Lin Le.
“What does who you are have to do with me? I don’t even know you,” Lin Le replied disdainfully.
“You…” Qu Junchu was so furious he could barely speak.
At that moment, the door behind them opened. Tang Nianchen, having heard the commotion, finally entered.
“Junchu, what’s going on?” Tang Nianchen asked.
“Nianchen, I came in and saw this guy sneaking around by Uncle Tang’s side. I called him out, and he had the nerve to be rude to me!” Qu Junchu immediately played the victim.
As Lin Le listened to their exchange, he felt a wave of irritation. Junchu? Nianchen? Damn it, must they be so nauseatingly close in front of me?
Though Lin Le bore no small amount of resentment toward Tang Nianchen, she was, after all, still his fiancée in name. And Qu Junchu was one of the people he despised most. Seeing his own woman address Qu Junchu so intimately, Lin Le could not help but feel even more annoyed.
“Nianchen, who exactly are these people? Be careful they don’t harbor ill intentions toward Uncle Tang!” Qu Junchu warned coldly.
“Junchu, you must be mistaken. They are the experts I invited to examine my parents,” Tang Nianchen explained.
“Is that so? Very well, for your sake, I’ll let this slide—for now. By the way, has Director Jia managed to contact that young prodigy of a doctor?” Qu Junchu asked.
“I got his number, but his phone is still off,” Tang Nianchen replied, a trace of disappointment in her voice.
“No problem. I have contacts in the bureau. Even if the phone isn’t working, I’m sure I can help you find him. Don’t worry—so long as I’m here, I’ll help you to the end!” Qu Junchu said, reaching out to place his hand on Tang Nianchen’s shoulder.
Lin Le’s brow furrowed at the sight—how dare he touch my woman? If he lays a finger on her, I’ll break his filthy hand!
He was not joking; a surge of fierce internal energy was already gathering in his palm, ready to be unleashed the moment Qu Junchu made contact.
But just as Qu Junchu’s hand was about to touch her shoulder, Tang Nianchen smoothly shifted, discreetly evading his touch.
“Thank you, Junchu,” Tang Nianchen said, her voice now tinged with a subtle coldness that made Qu Junchu wisely rein in his advances.
Seeing Tang Nianchen’s reaction, Lin Le felt a sudden, inexplicable joy.
Yes, that’s how a fiancée of mine should behave—well done!
Qu Junchu awkwardly drew back his hand, forcing a laugh. “You’re too kind. Your concerns are my concerns. I’ll do everything I can to help.”
“If that young prodigy is as skilled as Director Jia claims, then he is the one who can truly cure Uncle Tang. At the very least, he’s far more reliable than some charlatans with their cheap tricks!” Qu Junchu said pointedly, casting a disparaging glance at Lin Le and Liang Qiuyang.
“By the way, Master Liang, after examining my parents, have you found a way to cure their illness?” Tang Nianchen asked.
“Well…” Liang Qiuyang glanced at Lin Le.
“Yes, we have found a way. We can cure both Mr. and Mrs. Tang’s strange illness immediately,” Lin Le declared with conviction.
“What?!” Tang Nianchen exclaimed in disbelief, echoed by Liang Qiuyang’s own surprise.
“Master Liang, is what he said true?” Tang Nianchen asked excitedly.
“Well…” Liang Qiuyang hesitated.
“Nianchen, you mustn’t believe the words of these charlatans!” Qu Junchu cut in, sowing discord.
If Qu Junchu hadn’t spoken, it would have been fine, but as soon as he did, Liang Qiuyang’s temper flared. “My disciple is right. We have indeed found a way to cure Mr. and Mrs. Tang’s illness!”
“That’s wonderful! Please, Master Liang, treat my parents at once!” A rarely seen look of joy broke through Tang Nianchen’s icy expression.
“Master, perhaps we should forget it. Since they all think we’re nothing but con artists, there’s no need to embarrass ourselves further,” Lin Le said lightly.
Liang Qiuyang immediately understood and his face darkened. “My disciple makes a good point. There’s no need for us to try any longer.”
“Damn it, do you think you’re doing us a favor?” Qu Junchu cursed.
“Nianchen, I think they’re just a pair of frauds. Don’t believe a word they say!” Qu Junchu now made no effort to hide his contempt, pointing at Lin Le and Liang Qiuyang as he berated them.
“Qu Junchu, could you please be quiet for a moment?” Tang Nianchen’s voice suddenly turned icy.
Qu Junchu froze, not daring to utter another word for fear of angering her.
Tang Nianchen turned to Liang Qiuyang, her tone calm. “Master Liang, I trust your integrity and your abilities. I hope you will help my parents as soon as possible. The Tang family, the Tang Group, will be deeply grateful to you.”
“Well…” Liang Qiuyang looked once more at Lin Le.
Tang Nianchen took it all in. She couldn’t help but feel puzzled. From the very start, this Master Liang had deferred to his disciple in all decisions. It seemed the young man was the true authority here.
It was most perplexing. She knew well of Master Liang’s fame, but could not fathom what sort of person could command such deference from him—especially when that person was just a boy…
