Chapter 95: Seeing You Reminds Me of My Mother
Jiang Yu couldn’t find Jiang Li to discuss matters, and the frustration in his heart grew. He told Ning Xiyue to stop rummaging around—if she touched something she shouldn’t, it would surely be him who suffered for it.
The clue was right before her eyes, and Ning Xiyue was unwilling to give up. She grabbed Jiang Yu’s arm. “A-Yu, if Second Master were really in a relationship, wouldn’t the Old Master be delighted? But instead, Second Master chooses to hide it from him—why do you think that is?”
If Jiang Li truly settled down and built a family, Jiang Yu was certain the Jiang family would be firmly in Jiang Li’s hands. So if he really were in a relationship, there was no way he wouldn’t tell the Old Master.
Jiang Yu’s brows furrowed even tighter; it seemed the matter was more complicated than he had thought.
“It’s probably just a fling—some passing plaything,” he speculated.
“Then you’re wrong,” Ning Xiyue replied, again pointing to the handbag left on the sofa. “If it were just a plaything, would Second Master have let this cheap bag remain here? He’d have had someone toss it in the trash. The bag wouldn’t have stayed, much less on his sofa.”
Her words forced Jiang Yu to finally give serious attention to the ladies’ handbag he’d always ignored. But he couldn’t discern anything from it.
“Who’s there!” Ning Xiyue strode quickly to the door and dragged out Xu Wanwan, who’d been lurking by the entrance, peeking in suspiciously.
Xu Wanwan pleaded repeatedly, “I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to. I just came to find my sister.”
Jiang Yu and Ning Xiyue exchanged a glance. Ning Xiyue picked up the bag. “Do you know whose bag this is?”
…
When Jiang Li woke, the sun was already high in the sky.
Remembering that it was the weekend, she decided to go back to sleep for a bit, but out of habit, she picked up her phone to check the time—only to find it flooded with notifications.
A certain reporter had gone viral.
It was the very same reporter who had secretly photographed Xu Anan and Gu Yang.
It turned out that this reporter had a long record of misdeeds. He would do anything for money and had been sued many times, but due to lack of evidence, he’d always managed to evade punishment.
But this time, the evidence exposed online was absolute—he was completely destroyed.
They even dug up his criminal actions!
Now, what awaited him was nearly thirty years behind bars.
The entire internet was celebrating, especially many celebrities who liked the news—finally, no one would be following their cars home and exposing their private lives.
Xu Anan perked up at the news. “Whoever did this is truly a hero—how satisfying!”
“Get up if you’re awake, stop scrolling on your phone.”
Jiang Li entered for the fifth time and finally saw Xu Anan awake. “You really can sleep. Don’t you feel hungry? Come on, get up—the breakfast is cold already.”
Xu Anan struggled to sit up. Seeing Jiang Li in an apron, leaning there, she couldn’t help but laugh. But as she laughed, her eyes reddened. The moment her tears fell, she quickly turned her face away.
Jiang Li’s heart tightened. He strode over. “What’s wrong? If you don’t want to eat, then don’t. Go back to sleep—sleep as much as you like, eat when you wake up.”
“I’m not scolding you, do you understand?”
Xu Anan shook her head and wiped away her tears. Her reddened eyes made her look like a pitiful little rabbit, and her voice trembled, “Seeing you, I just think of my mother.”
…
A few dark lines appeared on Jiang Li’s handsome face, but he still reached out and ruffled Xu Anan’s hair. “Auntie will wake up.”
In truth, he had some understanding of Xu Mother’s condition—it was very grave.
Her health was extremely fragile, and many medications couldn’t be used. She needed to be nursed back to health for a while before any targeted treatment could be considered. It was going to be a very long process. If her body couldn’t withstand it partway through, there would be nothing anyone could do.
Xu Anan’s eyes dimmed.
So many years had passed, and time had gradually worn away her hope. She truly didn’t know what to do anymore.
She rubbed her face, forcing herself to be strong. “It’s all right, I’ll get up and have breakfast. I’m really starving!”
Seeing Xu Anan trying to appear lighthearted, Jiang Li felt a dull ache in his chest, a swelling emotion filling his heart. He reached out, pulled her back, and held her tightly in his arms.
As though making a promise, his deep voice carried an unwavering certainty. “As long as you believe in me, I will not let you down.”
Xu Anan’s pupils trembled violently.
The tears she had struggled to hold back threatened to spill over once more.
Since her mother had fallen into a coma, Xu Anan had faced everything alone. Even when dealing with people like Shen Ying, she could only keep a low profile and hide her edge.
She had never imagined she could rely on anyone.
But now Jiang Li was there, offering her a ray of hope, like the sun resting in her palm.
It all felt unreal to her.
After breakfast, Xu Anan went to the hospital.
This private hospital had been built at great expense by Jiang Li. It was rarely open to the public; anyone who came here was either rich or powerful.
Many staff members knew that Xu Anan’s relationship with Jiang Li was extraordinary, so they treated her with the utmost respect, as if she were the future lady of the house.
Xu Anan was a bit uncomfortable with this and hurried her steps.
“Hello.”
A woman in a white coat and glasses appeared, greeting Xu Anan with a bright smile. “Would you mind coming to my office for a detailed discussion?”
Xu Anan recognized her as Wen Huairou. True to her name, she was gentle with everyone and everything. She was also the director of this private hospital.
Wen Huairou was highly accomplished, having published several papers on patients in a vegetative state, all of which had been recognized by the academic community.
When she returned to the country, many organizations had fought to offer her high-paying positions, but she turned them all down.
In the end, she took up her post at this private hospital. She never publicly explained her reasons, nor did she bother to share her thoughts.
Wen Huairou radiated a warm, approachable aura. Even Xu Anan couldn’t help but be drawn to her, wanting to become friends.
In her office, Wen Huairou poured Xu Anan a glass of water and gestured invitingly. “A-Li has mentioned Madam Xu’s case to me. I’ve done considerable research in this area and have even successfully awakened several patients from deep comas.”
“However, Madam Xu’s condition is even worse than I imagined, so I’d like you to provide me with the previous doctor’s contact information. I need to discuss her case in detail.”
Xu Anan felt certain that Shen Ying would not cooperate and might even try to use Wen Huairou for her own ends. It was difficult to explain her situation clearly.
“Is there some difficulty?” Wen Huairou asked kindly, her eyes full of concern. “It’s all right, just tell me. If I can’t handle it, I’m sure A-Li will have a way.”
Hearing this, Xu Anan was briefly taken aback—she hadn’t expected Wen Huairou and Jiang Li to have such a close relationship.
For some reason, she felt a faint pang of jealousy.
Wen Huairou smiled. “Miss Xu, you don’t think there’s anything between me and A-Li, do you? You’ve got it wrong. I’m actually five years older than him, and I’m already married.”
“I’ve always regarded A-Li as a younger brother.”
