Chapter 137: Why Didn’t You Tell Me Tomorrow?

Xu An’an and Xue Shengnan had no choice but to ring the doorbell and pound on the door, but Tang Ze refused to respond from inside. Instead, he deliberately turned the music up as loud as possible, as though he were taunting them.
Xu An’an had truly seen it all.
She had never imagined that someone could be so shameless.
Unwilling to argue with such a scoundrel, Xu An’an took out her phone and called the police. The moment Tang Ze realized the matter was becoming serious, he hurriedly opened the door.
Tang Ze glared resentfully at Xue Shengnan, as though blaming her for calling the police.
Xu An’an stepped in front of Xue Shengnan.
“Officer, my friend is the actual owner of this place. But this Mr. Tang changed the locks without permission while she was away and refused to let her come home.”
The officers had apparently never expected the situation to be this outrageous.
Naturally, they took Xue Shengnan’s side.
“Sir, your actions have already violated the law. You are to move out immediately, compensate Miss Xue for all her losses, and obtain her forgiveness. Otherwise, this matter will proceed through the courts.”
Tang Ze put on an ingratiating smile. “It’s really just a misunderstanding. She’s my fiancée; we only had a quarrel. There’s no need to make such a big issue of it. I’m sorry to have troubled you both. Why don’t you leave us to resolve this privately?”
The officers did not believe Tang Ze. Instead, they turned to Xue Shengnan.
“Miss Xue, what do you intend to do?”
“Do as you said.” Xue Shengnan’s expression was calm, but her fists were clenched so tightly that her fingernails had dug into her palms.
The pain helped her remain composed and kept her from bursting into tears.
The officers nodded. “Mr. Tang, I believe you heard Miss Xue clearly. We’ll give you some time to gather your belongings. Move out immediately.”
“And compensate Miss Xue for all her losses.”
Tang Ze was utterly stunned. He had never expected Xue Shengnan to take things this far.
He glared viciously at her.
“Fine. Very fine!”
“I’ll pack up and leave right now, but I hope you won’t regret your decision today!”
This was Xue Shengnan’s home to begin with. Tang Ze owned pitifully little, and with the police watching, he did not dare take anything that did not belong to him.
In the end, Tang Ze left, dragging a suitcase behind him.
After the officers departed, Xue Shengnan felt as though she had just fought a long, exhausting battle. She sank onto the sofa and stared blankly into the darkness outside.
Xu An’an did not stop to rest. Instead, she hurriedly contacted a locksmith and asked him to come over.

Who knew whether Tang Ze might return in the middle of the night?
Once the locks had been changed, Xu An’an finally breathed a sigh of relief and ordered some takeout.
She sent Jiang Li a message: “I’m staying here with Shengnan tonight. I won’t be coming back.”
Jiang Li: “Why didn’t you tell me tomorrow?”
Xu An’an: “I decided just now, so I’m telling you now. Did you need me for something?”
After that, Jiang Li stopped replying.
Xu An’an guessed that Jiang Li was probably angry, but she could not understand what he had to be angry about. She was not his possession. If she did not want to go back, then she did not have to.
Normally, she did not even need to report her plans to him.
The takeout came quickly from a nearby restaurant. Xu An’an did not dwell on why Jiang Li was angry. Instead, she pulled Xue Shengnan over to eat.
“I remember you have a projector. We can watch a movie together later.”
Xue Shengnan was still somewhat downcast, but she nodded. “Thank you. If you hadn’t come with me, things might not have gone so smoothly.”
Xu An’an placed some food in Xue Shengnan’s bowl. “As your friend, of course I had to come.”
She smiled brightly. “From now on, no matter what happens, don’t keep carrying everything by yourself. You can always come to me.”
Xue Shengnan’s eyes reddened, and she nodded firmly.
After dinner, Xue Shengnan went to take a shower while Xu An’an searched for a movie in the living room. She intended to find something comforting to watch after a breakup.
Just then, a car horn sounded from downstairs.
Once, then twice.
Xu An’an turned toward the balcony. There was something strange about the way the person was honking. Who honked like that? It sounded almost like a signal.
Curious, Xu An’an walked out onto the balcony.
At a glance, she recognized Jiang Li’s car.
Xu An’an rubbed her eyes in disbelief, then quickly called him. “You’re not downstairs, are you? Were you the one honking just now?”
“Come down. I have something to show you.”
“What is it?”
“You’ll know when you come down.”
Thinking that Xue Shengnan would not finish her shower so soon, Xu An’an went downstairs. There, she saw Jiang Li lift a tabby cat out of the car.

She was somewhat surprised and could not understand what Jiang Li was trying to do.
Jiang Li was also holding a pair of pet nail clippers.
“You weren’t there the day I trimmed Fat Cat’s claws. Assistant Wang already took people to trim the other cats’ claws. I happened to notice that this one’s claws are rather long.”
“I’ll demonstrate it for you now. Next time, you can trim Fat Cat’s claws yourself.”
Xu An’an watched Jiang Li seriously demonstrate how to trim a cat’s claws. She was both amused and helpless, and found him incredibly adorable.
Could he have deliberately come up with this excuse?
When he noticed that Xu An’an was not paying attention, Jiang Li glared at her. “Watch carefully and learn properly. With that careless attitude, what could you possibly learn?”
After being scolded, Xu An’an hurriedly suppressed her smile, though she did not miss the fact that the tips of Jiang Li’s ears had turned bright red.
“Here, hold it.” Jiang Li found it difficult to work alone, and also wanted Xu An’an to feel more involved, so he had her hold the little tabby cat.
Xu An’an held the cat and watched attentively as Jiang Li trimmed its claws.
But as she watched, her gaze kept drifting toward Jiang Li’s face.
His eyelashes were long and delicate, casting shadows beneath his eyes. His skin was impossibly smooth, his nose high and straight, and his lips neither too thin nor too full. Even the line of his jaw was flawless.
The elegant shape of his lips was beautiful, touched with an alluring flush, like a ripe wild cherry.
It made her want to take a bite.
“What are you looking at?”
Caught off guard when her eyes met Jiang Li’s, Xu An’an hurriedly looked away. “Ahem, don’t misunderstand. I was only wondering whether Second Master Jiang uses some kind of skincare product, considering how good your skin is. We could launch a men’s face cream and have you endorse it. That would be perfect.”
“After all, it isn’t only women who like skincare. Some men enjoy it too. They want to be refined little gentlemen.”
Whenever she panicked, Xu An’an could rattle off a stream of thoughtless nonsense to conceal what she was really thinking.
The renowned Second Master Jiang would never lower himself to endorse skincare products. That would be as sensational as discovering aliens on Earth.
Yet Jiang Li only asked, “What do you mean by ‘refined little gentlemen’?”
Xu An’an gave a dry laugh. “Second Master Jiang, you really do have a talent for focusing on the most unusual things.”
“So what exactly is a ‘refined little gentleman’?”
Before Xu An’an could answer, rain began to drift down from the sky. Jiang Li took advantage of the moment to push Xu An’an into the car.
“Explain yourself clearly. Otherwise, you’re not going anywhere.”
