Hearing the notification sound from the opposite door, Anan Xu covered her face—she really shouldn't have been so impulsive and entered the code one more time. But it shouldn't be a big problem, right? Jiang Li owned so much property; surely Jiang Yu wasn't lacking, either.

Anan Xu had no choice but to wait for Jiang Yu and Ning Xiyue to leave before she dared to make her exit. Who could have guessed that Jiang Yu wouldn’t leave? "My uncle rarely comes here anyway. Let’s just stay at his place for the night and have someone come fix things tomorrow."

Ning Xiyue was thrilled and full of anticipation at the chance to visit Jiang Li’s private residence. But Anan Xu, who was only separated from them by a door, was dumbstruck. Wasn’t this just walking right into a trap?

While she worried, Jiang Yu and Ning Xiyue were already at the door. "Let me think... what was the code again?" Ning Xiyue peered through the peephole, sensing something was off. She leaned in, startling Anan Xu, who quickly crouched down and crept away toward the bedroom, praying Jiang Yu would get the code wrong three times.

But Jiang Yu got it right on the first try.

Ning Xiyue clung to his arm, praising him, "You’re amazing, Ah Yu! But what does Second Master use as his door code?" She was adept at deducing personality from passwords.

Jiang Yu’s expression was hard to read. Why did it match Anan Xu’s birthday? What a coincidence.

"Let’s just go in," he said. Before they could enter, Jiang Yu’s phone rang. Seeing Jiang Li’s name, his hands nearly slipped—he hadn’t asked permission to open the door, after all.

Inside, Anan Xu had already hidden herself in Jiang Li’s wardrobe. She heard the success chime of the code, her heart pounding wildly. Why was her luck so bad? No, it was Jiang Yu who was shameless, bringing a woman to spend the night at his uncle’s place.

Wait—she could call Jiang Li and report them!

Anan Xu hastily dialed Jiang Li, but the line was busy. After a while, she tried again but no one answered. After several attempts, she gave up.

If you want something done, do it yourself.

She strained her ears, listening for any sign outside. All was quiet, as though no one was there. But she didn’t dare take the risk. So she waited and waited, eventually falling asleep in the wardrobe.

In the middle of the night, she woke up, nearly rolling out before remembering she was hiding inside.

Click.

There was movement outside. Anan Xu’s hair stood on end. Was it Jiang Yu or Ning Xiyue? Why were they still awake at this hour?

Footsteps approached, stopping right in front of the wardrobe.

Had she been discovered so soon?

As the wardrobe opened, Anan Xu squeezed her eyes shut in despair, already bracing herself for Jiang Yu’s wrath.

"So you like my wardrobe this much?"

Anan Xu's eyes flew open in shock. The man in front of her wasn’t Jiang Yu—it was Jiang Li. How could this be?

Jiang Li took a deep breath, suppressing the pain in his ribs as he sat on the sofa, looking rather nonchalant with one arm draped over the backrest. A glimmer of amusement flickered in his eyes, and a meaningful smile played on his lips. "If I’m not mistaken, you said you wanted to go home."

"So, is this your home?" he asked. "Or did I come to the wrong door?"

Anan Xu forced an awkward smile, her toes curling with embarrassment—she could have dug a hole in the floor. Still, being found by Jiang Li was better than by Jiang Yu.

Remembering Jiang Yu, she quickly said, "Actually, I came to see Jiang Yu about something. Have you seen him, Second Master?"

"No," Jiang Li replied.

He had intelligent surveillance installed at home; any unfamiliar face would alert him immediately. That was how he’d seen Anan Xu remotely, then noticed Jiang Yu and Ning Xiyue arriving. He’d called Jiang Yu, scaring him off. But he wouldn’t tell Anan Xu any of this.

Trying to compose herself, Anan Xu explained everything that had happened. "It sounds unbelievable, but that’s the truth."

"Oh right, let’s talk about the resort on Lakeheart Island," she quickly changed the subject, not expecting Jiang Li to believe her story.

She stepped out of the wardrobe, savoring the fresh air. If she’d really slept in there all night, would she have suffocated?

"Wait," Jiang Li gritted his teeth, his face pale. "Help me to the bed."

Anan Xu hurried over to support him to the bedside, frowning in confusion. "Second Master, in your condition, you should be in the hospital! Why come back here and put yourself through this?"

Jiang Li shot her a glare, silencing her instantly.

Tsk—who was he doing this for, after all?

After a short rest, he felt a little better. "Speak. Don’t waste my time. You only get one chance."

Anan Xu hesitated, but sending him back to the hospital now would only tire him more. "Well... all right, I’ll tell you what I’ve found out."

"Every year, large numbers of egrets roost on Lakeheart Island—that’s common knowledge. But a hot spring was also discovered there, a natural one. Of course, it still needs to be inspected by experts, but I’m sure you have a professional team."

Jiang Corporation had once considered a similar plan; everything was ready but was shelved due to technical issues.

Jiang Li genuinely didn’t know about the natural hot spring.

"How can you be sure?" he asked. "Are you an expert?"

Anan Xu couldn’t reveal that it was Old Gu who’d tipped her off; after all, his students were everywhere, in every field.

"If you don’t believe me, forget I said anything. But if someone else gets there first, how much will Jiang Corporation lose? Don’t blame me then."

Without solid evidence, no one would invest such manpower and resources—not even Jiang Li.

He closed his eyes deeply. "My wound may have split open. Go to the living room and bring the first aid kit."

Seeing the blood soaking through Jiang Li’s white shirt, Anan Xu didn’t dare delay and hurried out, while Jiang Li pressed his phone with his free hand.

She returned quickly. "Shouldn’t we call a doctor?"

"Can you feed yourself? It’s just changing a bandage, no need to make a fuss." Jiang Li grabbed her shoulder, using her for leverage to sit up. "Hurry up!"

Anan Xu had seen the doctor change his dressings before and was quite capable herself. She quickly and deftly changed his bandage, then helped him lie back down.

"Do you want some painkillers?" There were some in the kit.

Jiang Li, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, gave a weak grunt of assent. "Bring me some water."

"One moment." Anan Xu busied herself taking care of him, and only after Jiang Li had taken his pain medication and fallen asleep did she finally sit down on the sofa to rest.

She messaged Assistant Wang, updating him on Jiang Li’s condition.

Assistant Wang advised her to call a doctor immediately.

The doctor said, "You’ll have to stay with Second Master. If the wound keeps acting up, I’m afraid he’ll spike a fever tonight. If that happens, call me immediately."
