Chapter 120: Nightmare

Originally, An An intended to return to her own home, but the terrifying scene she had just witnessed lingered in her mind. In the end, she came to the detached villa, hoping to soothe her nerves by playing with the cats.
However, the moment she saw Jiang Li, she felt much more at ease.
“Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
“Nothing much, come inside quickly.” Jiang Li turned aside. “If you’re out this late again, call me to pick you up. People’s hearts are unpredictable.”
Recalling those men from earlier, An An shivered all over and hurried indoors.
“Meow!” The fat cat immediately ran out to greet her.
Sensing An An’s unease, it rubbed against her legs softly: “Meow meow.”
The other cats also gathered around.
Surrounded by these little cuties, An An sat down on the floor and petted each one in turn, feeling her spirits lift.
Jiang Li frowned. “The floor’s cold, get up.”
“We’ll have someone come lay down some carpet tomorrow. Sit however you like.”
Only then did An An rise. “No need to lay carpet, it’ll be hard to clean, and the floor gathers dirt easily.”
Jiang Li followed her upstairs. “There will be someone regularly washing and changing it.”
Thinking of Jiang Li’s immense wealth, An An felt her worries were unnecessary; she could indulge herself freely since someone would always clean up after her.
No wonder so many people loved being rich wives—who wouldn’t want this kind of life?
Still, An An felt more like a caged canary kept by Jiang Li.
An An took a hot bath, feeling much more relaxed. Coming out of the bathroom, she eagerly collapsed onto the soft, large bed.
She knew the brand of this bed—it was a luxury item.
No wonder she never wanted to get up in the morning.
At that moment, Jiang Li set down the book he was reading, reached out and pulled An An close. She struggled a bit, drowsy, murmuring, “Not tonight, I’m exhausted.”
“Is that how you see me?” he asked.
“Yeah, that’s exactly how you are…”
“In that case, I’ll keep up the act.” Jiang Li leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to An An’s lips, claiming a little interest first before leaving her be.
An An quickly fell asleep but had a nightmare.
In the dream, Qi Xize did not appear. Instead, those men dragged her away, subjected her to cruel acts, and finally tried to sell her.
No matter how much she begged, it was useless.

“An An, An An?”
Sensing the young woman’s restlessness, Jiang Li woke up and gently tapped her cheek to bring her out of the nightmare.
Still dazed, An An saw Jiang Li’s face and, scared, curled into his embrace, trembling all over.
Knowing she was still haunted by what had happened on the road earlier, Jiang Li’s eyes flickered with barely perceptible menace.
His voice was low and magnetic: “Don’t be afraid, it was only a nightmare.”
“Nothing will happen to you while you’re with me.”
After a long while, An An calmed down but still clung to Jiang Li, inhaling the fresh scent on him.
Her lips parted slightly. “Second Master, if Jiang Yu and I really register our marriage…”
“You’re willing?” Jiang Li’s warmth suddenly vanished. He gripped An An’s chin and forced her to look him in the eye. “Look at me and tell me clearly—what’s going on?”
An An lowered her lashes. “I went back today to look for the household registration book but was afraid they’d take it upon themselves to register the marriage without asking me.”
Learning this, Jiang Li exhaled deeply in relief.
“Did you find the household registration book?”
“No, I don’t know where they hid it.”
“Don’t worry.” Jiang Li’s large hand stroked her hair. He pulled out his phone and started texting someone.
An An nestled against Jiang Li’s solid chest, her small hand habitually grazing his abs. She adored his physique.
It was perfect, endlessly intoxicating.
As she touched him, she sensed something was off. Looking down—
Jiang Li had, without her noticing, lifted up his pajamas.
Caught in the act, An An blushed and rolled over. “Ahem, I’m tired. Good night.”
Unexpectedly, the man wrapped his arms around her from behind the next second, lightly biting her delicate earlobe. “You think you can light the fire and then run? Not that easy.”
Without giving An An a chance to protest, he kissed her passionately.
Outside, the night was calm, but inside, passion burned fiercely. Under the moonlight, two figures intertwined fervently...
The Xu family.
All three members slept soundly until dawn.
Shen Ying found this strange and felt her heart thumping. She hurriedly sent Xu’s father to check if anything was missing. “How come we all slept so deeply? An An must have done something.”
Xu’s father also caught on.
But he was unconcerned. “That girl probably came back looking for the household registration book, but I already gave it to the Jiang family.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Ying relaxed.
Even if An An had Jiang Li backing her, she didn’t believe Jiang Li would go against his own family to snatch his nephew’s fiancée. If that got out, the Jiang family’s reputation would be ruined!
Shen Ying realized she had been overwhelmed by fear at the mention of the “Second Master Jiang.”
In truth, An An was just a secret lover—she wouldn’t dare make a fuss!
Instantly, Shen Ying hardened her resolve.
“Hmph, let’s not make this public yet. That girl will definitely come back to steal the household registration book again, and when she does, we’ll make sure she never leaves!”
“In that case, I’ll leave it to you to handle this. The company’s been very busy lately,” Xu’s father said, quickly changing clothes and heading out.
Shen Ying stood by the window, coldly watching the car drive away.
She knew Xu’s father had been cozying up to the new secretary recently; all his busyness was just an excuse.
She had once thought about trying to win Xu’s father’s heart back, but now she had a new plan. She took out her phone and called their lawyer.
She intended to slowly transfer marital assets and gather evidence of Xu’s father’s infidelity.
When the time came, she would ruin him utterly—destroy his reputation and leave him with nothing!
...
Finally, the day of Xue Shengnan’s engagement banquet arrived. An An’s feelings were complicated; she had thought there would still be a week, hoping Xue Shengnan would see reason.
She hoped Tang Jin was truly a reformed man.
“An An, you’re here.”
Xue Shengnan, dressed in a gown and fully made up, looked stunning. Her smile was radiant, her eyes brimming with happiness.
An An swallowed the words she was about to say.
Love is like drinking water—only the drinker knows its warmth or coldness.
As the hostess, Xue Shengnan went to greet other guests and told An An to find a seat. “It’ll start soon.”
Just as An An was about to leave, she noticed Tang Jin walking toward the lounge with a woman. Their behavior was furtive.
Without thinking, An An quickly followed.
Unbeknownst to her, another figure was tailing them.
