Chapter 149: I Am Truly Carrying Your Child
The venue erupted in an uproar. As guests who moved in the same social circle, everyone present was well aware of the engagement between Xu An'an and Jiang Yu. Yet, how had the female lead suddenly changed?
Whispers rippled through the crowd. Old Master Jiang, trembling with rage, slammed his hand onto the table. "Jiang Yu, what is the meaning of this! You have brought complete disgrace to the Jiang family!"
Jiang Yu stood as if struck by lightning, his face deathly pale. "No, no, Grandfather, this is all fake! These photos are just trick photography; someone deliberately staged them to mislead us and smear my reputation! Ning Yue and I do not have that kind of relationship!"
"So, you are saying that the child Miss Ning is carrying is not yours?" Jiang Li interjected, his voice light and airy.
It was like a thunderclap on a clear day!
Ning Xiyue, who had been trying to remain inconspicuous, suddenly looked up, her face filled with disbelief. She had only just discovered her own pregnancy and was still debating whether to have an abortion; now, Jiang Li had exposed her in front of everyone!
Jiang Yu looked at Ning Xiyue in shock. "You... didn't you say you were infertile?" That was why he had been so reckless, never once using any form of birth control.
Ning Xiyue’s composure crumbled. In her panic, she wept, her face a mask of tears. "Ah Yu, I... I am carrying your child!"
Jiang Yu had intended for Ning Xiyue to deny everything to the end, but her confession was a stinging slap to his face. He had told her many times that they had to keep their true relationship hidden; only when he gained real power and secured control of the Jiang Corporation would he give her a grand wedding. He could not understand why she would say this now.
Xu An'an glanced quietly at Jiang Li. She knew he was calm because he had planned this, but she hadn't expected such a massive revelation. It was a delightful surprise.
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow, as if to say, "Aren't you going to praise me?"
Xu An'an pursed her lips to hide a smile and looked away.
The farce continued. Jiang Yu desperately tried to deny it, but a new video appeared on the giant screen—a recording of a conversation between him and Ning Xiyue, filled with the intimate banter of lovers. They were even discussing their future together.
Jiang Yu had been comforting Ning Xiyue, telling her it didn't matter if she couldn't have children. "At worst, we'll just have Xu An'an give birth, and you can raise the child. Wouldn't it be even better to have Xu An'an’s child call you 'Mom'? You get to be a mother without the pain of labor."
The crowd gasped; they had not expected Jiang Yu to be capable of such cold-blooded, heartless words.
Xu An'an stared at Jiang Yu with icy eyes, wishing she could tear him apart. She had known he was a scoundrel, but she hadn't realized he was this insidious.
On screen, the two were leaning in as if to kiss. Clearly, no matter how Jiang Yu tried to deny or defend himself, it was useless.
Ning Xiyue sobbed, "Ah Yu, I wanted to tell you earlier... I have been treating my condition, and the doctor said it wasn't impossible for me to conceive. I really am carrying your child—are you going to abandon us, mother and son?"
Jiang Yu’s head was buzzing, his thoughts a chaotic mess. He couldn't think; he only felt that he was finished.
Yet, the farce had not ended.
Jiang Li had someone hand a file to the Old Master. "Father, take a close look. Some people are being swindled and don't even know it."
Old Master Jiang flipped through the documents, his expression shifting violently. "Jiang Yu!?"
The infidelity alone wasn't enough to push the Old Master to this level of fury, but the fact that Jiang Yu had been cheated out of 500 million yuan caused his blood pressure to skyrocket. He threw the documents hard into Jiang Yu’s face.
"Look at the fine mess you've made! With this level of competence, you still want to be Vice President?"
Jiang Yu scrambled to open the file, nearly fainting on the spot. His face, already pale, lost every last trace of color. He wanted to deny it, to argue, but the facts spoke for themselves.
"Grandfather, I, I..."
"Enough! You must find a way to make up for this 500 million yourself, or get out of the Jiang Corporation!" Old Master Jiang’s face was dark; he couldn't bear to stay a second longer.
The Old Madam felt the same, shaking her head in disappointment. "It's one thing to have a messy private life, but how could you be so foolish with company affairs? If the Jiang Corporation were to fall into your hands, wouldn't it be ruined?"
She didn't forget to take the opportunity to lecture Jiang Yu's mother: "It seems that in the years I've been away from the Jiang house, you’ve raised quite a son. Perhaps it's time to hand the management of the household back to me."
Jiang Mother’s heart jolted. She stood up abruptly, only to collapse from a sudden drop in blood sugar.
The scene descended into chaos. Jiang Yu, forgetting everything else, scrambled to call for an ambulance.
The night's farce ended with the departure of the ambulance. Xu An'an was about to leave when she was stopped by Xu Fengnian, his face grim. "An'an, what is going on? I told you to firmly secure Young Master Jiang, and now a woman is pregnant with his child, and you were completely oblivious!"
Thinking of how, if the engagement were broken, the future of the Xu family and his new projects would be in jeopardy, he was frantic.
Although things hadn't gone exactly as she had hoped, Xu Wanwan was pleased to see Xu An'an lose her engagement to the Jiang family. "Mom, you have a debt of gratitude owed to you by the Jiang family. Since Jiang Yu is off the table, there’s still the Second Master! Hurry and negotiate with the Jiangs, tell them I should marry the Second Master." Xu Wanwan was convinced this was a done deal, reasoning that since Xu An'an had been engaged to Jiang Yu, she couldn't possibly be with Jiang Li. Therefore, marrying her to Jiang Li was the best option.
Shen Ying frowned. She wanted to snap Xu Wanwan out of her delusions; Jiang Li was not Jiang Yu—he was not someone who could be manipulated by just anyone. Otherwise, why hadn't she chosen Jiang Li herself back then? Was she a fool?
"Enough, let's hear what your sister has to say."
"What could she possibly say? She's just a mistress who can't be seen in public! If the Second Master really liked her, why hasn't he made her status official?" Xu Wanwan said with disdain.
Xu An'an remained calm. Since her engagement to Jiang Yu was undoubtedly doomed, she felt a sudden sense of relief. "What is there to say? The initiative has never been in the hands of the Xu family."
Her words jolted Xu Fengnian awake. He was irritable and couldn't understand how things had escalated to this point. "An'an, aren't you on good terms with the Second Master? Go and ask him if our two families can still be related by marriage. As long as Young Master Jiang breaks it off with that woman, we can pretend nothing happened."
Xu An'an’s pupils constricted. Rage surged from her heart, and she clenched her fists. She sneered, "What a wonderful father you are. Jiang Yu has already cheated on me with another woman, and you want me to pretend nothing happened? You want me to help him raise his mistress's child, is that it?"
"If you're so generous with other people's lives, why don't you marry Xu Wanwan off to him? I am absolutely not continuing this engagement. Whoever wants to marry him can go ahead!"
Xu An'an turned to leave. Suddenly, Shen Ying moved, a silver needle between her fingers gleaming with a cold light. She struck directly at the back of Xu An'an’s neck, causing her to lose consciousness instantly and slump to the ground.
