Ling Tian’s move was far too sudden. No one there had expected that, all the less that he would douse Luo Jun with wine for no apparent reason. Not even Zhao Ming had seen it coming. Luo Jun himself was momentarily stunned. He stared blankly at the empty glass in Ling Tian’s hand, then lowered his head to look at his own clothes.

“You... you fucking dare splash me?” Luo Jun snapped back to his senses at once and erupted in fury. In the company, as a department manager, he had always held himself above others, and when dealing with people outside, he was respected by virtue of the company’s strength. Especially at today’s class reunion, few could compare with him.

So Luo Jun had a powerful sense of superiority.

To put it plainly, he believed these people were all lowly ants at the bottom of society, and for him to sit with them already showed great generosity.

But now Ling Tian, the one he looked down on the most, had splashed him in full view of so many people. It was a humiliation he simply could not tolerate.

The more Luo Jun thought about it, the angrier he became. His brows shot up, his face turned ashen, and he pointed at Ling Tian with a shaking finger, roaring, “Ling Tian, you’re fucking courting death. Let me tell you, I’ve met your company’s CEO before. Believe it or not, one call from me to your CEO and I can make sure you’re kicked out.”

Ling Tian glanced at Luo Jun with clear disdain. So meeting someone once counted as having connections? Luo Jun really had a ridiculously inflated opinion of himself.

“This is a high-end venue. Loud noise isn’t allowed, or they’ll have to escort you out,” Ling Tian said, pointing toward the waiter who was walking over.

Luo Jun, who had been about to keep raging, turned and saw the waiter approaching. He quickly clamped his mouth shut. If things went badly, they really might throw him out. “Sorry, we’ll keep it down,” he said hurriedly, stepping forward with a flattering smile.

The waiter looked at Luo Jun expressionlessly and said flatly, “This is your first warning. If you continue making noise, I’ll have security escort you out.”

After the waiter left, Luo Jun, having been thoroughly embarrassed, spat hard and said, “What’s so great about you? You’re just a lousy waiter. I’ve eaten with the eldest young master of the Nangong family. If you keep pushing me, one phone call and I’ll have you thrown out.”

Seeing Luo Jun, who had been putting on airs, get slapped down, most of the people present felt a wave of satisfaction. Some even gave Ling Tian a thumbs-up.

Zhao Ming tugged at Ling Tian’s sleeve and said in a low voice, “Ling Tian, don’t be rash. Luo Jun isn’t an ordinary person anymore. He’s not someone we plain folks can afford to provoke.”

“Whether a person is doing well or not isn’t the important thing. What matters is that no matter when, he has to have a backbone,” Ling Tian said, patting Zhao Ming on the shoulder. He felt a little regretful. The Zhao Ming of old, with his lofty ambitions, seemed to have become a different man under the pressure of life. As the saying goes, living is hard enough.

A glint flashed in Zhao Ming’s eyes, and then he gave a wry smile. “Yes. As the old saying goes, poverty cannot bend a man, and power cannot force him to submit. If it were just me, I could probably do it. But unfortunately...” He did not continue, lowering his head and drinking in silence.

Ling Tian knew that, by Zhao Ming’s character, he was absolutely capable of remaining steadfast in poverty and unyielding under pressure. But why had things turned out this way? There was obviously some other reason.

“Come on, have a drink,” Ling Tian said, raising his glass and clinking it with Zhao Ming’s before downing it in one gulp.

The reunion continued.

Luo Jun and a few show-off men, all closely connected to him, deliberately took up a spot beside Ling Tian and even dragged over a whole crowd of beautiful women. Among them were single airheads like Nuo Xiao Xiao, as well as married women who still loved to compare themselves with others. They sipped their drinks, took a little advantage here and there, chatted and laughed, and were having the time of their lives.

“Luo Jun, I heard your career is really taking off lately and you’re doing quite well,” Nuo Xiao Xiao said in a coy voice, twisting her slim waist as she deliberately leaned closer to him. Her sultry eyes seemed almost capable of speaking, making the crude men nearby groan that they could not take it.

“Just average,” Luo Jun said. “I’m only a small manager right now, with an annual salary of a little over two hundred thousand. I just bought a car recently, and the house is already renovated. I may not be doing all that well, but compared with some people, I’m practically the boss.” As he spoke, he glanced at Ling Tian, his expression full of contempt.

Nuo Xiao Xiao immediately chimed in, “Of course. Some people are just blind to their own place. They don’t amount to much, and yet they still try to act all noble. Back then he shamelessly pursued me day after day. Hmph. Thank goodness I never agreed, or I would’ve had to suffer along with him.”

She twisted the truth completely, making Ling Tian out to be the one chasing her, just to show off how great her own charm was.

“A nobody making only two or three thousand a month and still trying to act refined? That’s just putting on airs,” said a lecherous man who had been staring fixedly at Nuo Xiao Xiao’s chest. “A beauty like you ought to marry a multimillionaire at the very least.”

Nuo Xiao Xiao laughed coquettishly. “That goes without saying. With my looks, I’ll definitely marry rich someday. For now, I have to be careful and avoid contact with poor people, or they’ll drag down my status.”

Ling Tian, who had been drinking at the side, slowly turned around with his glass in hand and looked at Nuo Xiao Xiao expressionlessly. Zhao Ming guessed that trouble might be brewing, and hurriedly tugged at Ling Tian’s arm. “Ling Tian, this wine is pretty good. Have a few more with me.”

Seeing that Ling Tian still looked unconvinced, Nuo Xiao Xiao gave a cold snort and said haughtily, “What are you staring at? Never seen a beauty before? Back when you pursued me, I didn’t agree to you. Now I look down on a poor wretch like you even more.”

Luo Jun, drinking nearby, did not miss this perfect chance to trample Ling Tian. He immediately came over with a smile and said, “Ling Tian, what’s the matter? Still want to splash someone? This piece of clothing is worth a month’s salary. If you’ve got the guts, go ahead and splash me.”

As he spoke, he even pointed to his clothes.

Ling Tian was always rather low-key and straightforward, so he smiled at once and said, “Fine. I happen to love doing people a favor. Since you’re determined to act cheap, I’ll indulge you.”

With that, he hurled the full glass of wine straight into Luo Jun’s face, splashing him into a daze on the spot.

That was the second time.

This kid really dared to do it.

Luo Jun wiped his face, his eyes bloodshot.

“You really fucking dared to splash me,” he snarled, tearing off his jacket and throwing it to the floor. He grabbed a wine bottle at the same time, ready to smash Ling Tian with it.

The others saw that things were getting out of hand and hurriedly stopped him, urging, “A gentleman uses his tongue, not his fists. Besides, if you start a fight here, you’ll be in serious trouble.”

“Damn it, I’m done being polite today,” Luo Jun said, glaring at Ling Tian as though he wanted to swallow him alive.

“Just now, you were already warned once. If you keep making trouble, then I’ll have to ask all of you to leave,” said the waiter, walking over and looking at Luo Jun without any expression.
