Chapter Sixty-Two: Teasing
Nangong Xue nodded vigorously, released the bedsheet she’d been biting, and said in an incredibly sweet voice, “Don’t worry about the treatment. At worst, I’ll marry you.”
Hearing this, Ling Tian nearly lost it. What was this girl thinking? Could she be associating the treatment with scenes from movies, imagining that a man curing a woman must involve removing her clothes and doing things not suitable for children?
What happened next nearly made Ling Tian collapse entirely.
Nangong Zhenyu turned to Ling Tian with a serious expression and asked, “Young Master Ling, do you need us to step outside?” The others mirrored his questioning look. From the way Nangong Zhenyu and the rest behaved, Ling Tian felt they wouldn’t even be surprised if he did as he pleased with Nangong Xue right now—they’d probably consider it only natural.
Movies and TV dramas always depicted such scenes this way: a master healer would inevitably have to cross certain boundaries to cure someone.
As the head of the family and Nangong Xue’s father, Nangong Zhenyu was only too eager for Ling Tian to do something with his daughter. Firstly, Ling Tian seemed like a responsible man—if he truly did something, surely he would take responsibility. Most importantly, if a master like Ling Tian became their son-in-law, the Nangong family’s strength would instantly surpass the other great families.
Sensing Ling Tian’s embarrassment, Nangong Xue continued, “Don’t be nervous, Miracle Doctor. Even if something happens between us, I won’t force you to marry me. But I’ll definitely be the one marrying you.”
Ling Tian felt at a loss—what was this all about? Had this girl’s illness made her silly, or was his own charm so overwhelming she’d fallen for him at first sight?
Seeing Ling Tian flustered, Nangong Xue covered her mouth with her delicate hand and giggled, “Miracle Doctor, I was only teasing you.”
So, he was being toyed with by this little minx!
“Even if you insist on marrying me, it’s no use. I already have a fiancée. Of course, if you’re determined to be a concubine, I might consider it,” Ling Tian retorted. He was not one to let a good-natured jab go unanswered. Ever since becoming a mercenary, he’d learned never to let a slight go unavenged—even if he couldn’t retaliate immediately, he’d always find a chance later.
Nangong Xue laughed merrily, “A concubine, huh? That’s worth considering. By the way, who is your fiancée? Is she talented? Is she beautiful?” After being ill for so long, Nangong Xue could barely contain herself now that she could finally talk; her rosy lips fired off questions like a machine gun.
Ling Tian quickly interrupted her, “Little beauty, I’m still treating you. As for the rest, let’s talk about it when you’re fully recovered, all right?”
Nangong Xue blinked mischievously and said, “Okay! Hurry up, I’m ready.”
Her words were full of implication, and as she lay flat on the bed, she looked entirely like a flower waiting to be plucked. Ling Tian, being a normal man, couldn’t help but have a few indecent images flicker through his mind.
To be fair, Nangong Xue was stunning—no less so than Mu Qingcheng, yet softer and sweeter with a hint of girlish charm.
Ling Tian felt a bit parched and thought to himself: The mighty King of Mercenaries, undone by a slip of a girl? This must be avenged—otherwise, I’ll be too agitated to sleep tonight. He lifted Nangong Xue’s legs and gave her a couple of firm pats on her bottom—he had to admit, the feel was quite nice.
Nangong Zhenyu and the others were dumbfounded, staring in disbelief as Ling Tian smacked a woman’s bottom right in front of them.
Nangong Xue glared at Ling Tian, cheeks puffed out in anger.
Ling Tian, however, remained composed. “It’s part of the treatment. Is there a problem?” He even turned calmly to the others, as if seeking their approval. While speaking, he gave Nangong Xue’s bottom another squeeze and shot her a provocative look.
Feigning ignorance, Nangong Zhenyu shook his head hurriedly. “No problem, please proceed!”
Ling Tian replied coolly, “Since there’s no problem, then I’ll begin.”
With that, Ling Tian focused all his attention on Nangong Xue. The yin energy and corpse poison had already deeply fused with her body; removing them without harming her would be extremely difficult. Fortunately, Ling Tian possessed spiritual awareness—otherwise, only a master at the Qi Transformation stage could even hope to heal her.
He took a deep breath and tossed another talisman to suppress the yin energy and corpse poison temporarily. Then, guiding his true energy through Nangong Xue’s meridians, he traced the location of the yin energy. As for the corpse poison, Ling Tian had already pinpointed it with his spiritual sense—it was lodged in Nangong Xue’s heart.
Thus, his plan was to remove the yin energy first, then focus his full effort on expelling the corpse poison.
He wrapped the yin energy with his true energy, drove it along her meridians out of her body, and then destroyed it with another surge of true energy.
But as the first wisp of yin energy was expelled, inspiration struck Ling Tian—he directly absorbed the yin energy instead. After all, yin energy was a form of spiritual energy.
Ling Tian cultivated the Chaos Technique, which had a unique ability: it could absorb any type of spiritual energy.
Streams of faint black yin energy poured from Nangong Xue’s body and were absorbed by Ling Tian. As a martial artist himself, Nangong Zhenyu was utterly shocked. Ling Tian was strong enough to expel yin energy with true energy—but why was he absorbing it? Did he worry it might harm others, so he took it into himself to refine it?
Clearly, Ling Tian was even more formidable than he had imagined, Nangong Zhenyu thought to himself.
Ling Tian continued expelling and absorbing the yin energy. To avoid injuring Nangong Xue, he extracted only a small amount each time, which made the process lengthy.
By the time all the yin energy was removed, a whole hour had passed. Not only had Ling Tian’s reserves of true energy not diminished, they’d actually increased thanks to absorbing the yin energy.
The yin energy generated by corpse poison was especially pure, and since Nangong Xue was still a maiden, this yin energy was an absolute feast for Ling Tian.
“So warm… it feels wonderful,” Nangong Xue murmured lazily, as the last traces of yin energy disappeared and vitality returned to her body.
Ling Tian cast another healing talisman to help repair her damaged organs, then focused his attention on her heart. “Just one more step—once the corpse poison is gone and you rest for a month, you’ll be completely healed,” he said gravely.
The corpse poison was the source of the yin energy; if not eliminated, the yin energy would soon return.
To everyone’s astonishment, Ling Tian reached out and clutched Nangong Xue’s chest!
