Chapter 7: The School Bully

Li Ma smiled gently and lightly patted her hand. “Don’t take it to heart; she probably didn’t mean it.”
Xi Ning was instantly thunderstruck. After all, she was the female lead, her aura so powerful it blinded everyone around her. If it weren’t for her helping just now, would this even be her own mother?
“Mama!” Xi Ning frowned slightly. “I’m already like this, and you still think she didn’t do it on purpose?”
“What happened to you?” Li Ma followed Xi Ning’s gaze to her arm wrapped in a triangular bandage. “Are you saying your injury has something to do with her?”
“Mama.” Xi Ning coquetted, now that the pure and innocent female lead wasn’t around, the saintly white lotus halo had no effect, and her influence was weaker. She quickly applied some eye drops for her mother. “It’s not that I despise her for being poor, but she’s just too much. I know no one will believe a word I say, but please just make a call. Even if they won’t let me switch classes, say I’m injured and can’t be touched to avoid further harm. Please have them move my seat to the corner, alright?”
She put on her pitiful act — anyone could do that — but her past self had been too proud to feign this kind of shamelessness. “I beg you, Mama, I can’t dislocate my arm again. The doctor said if it happens again, it will become habitual. My arm will be ruined.”
“All right, all right!” Li Ma couldn’t resist her persistence and picked up her phone to call the principal.
Sure enough, the principal refused to approve a class transfer but agreed to move her seat to the corner of the classroom. Of course, he emphasized that only troubled students were usually relegated to the corners.
Xi Ning nodded firmly. For the sake of her arm, that would do. After all, she only had four months until graduation. She was young and couldn’t afford a habitual dislocation.
After reaching an agreement, that was settled.
That night, Xi Ning slept soundly, fully rested and ready to face the battles ahead. Thinking about that black lotus, who cried at the drop of a hat, she wondered where all those tears came from. Crying so much that it harmed her health, no wonder she was skinny and short, like a bean sprout.
The next morning, Xi Ning packed everything early and waited for the car.
As expected, when the time came, her phone rang with Wang Zilong’s impatient voice: “I’m here. Come down.”
“Mama, I’m off!” Xi Ning greeted before stepping outside.
A silver-black Bentley Mulsanne was parked at the door. They say daughters raised in luxury are cherished. Though Wang’s father wasn’t as indulgent as Li Qingyu’s dad, who lavishly gifted Phantom cars, he had only gotten her a business car worth a bit over a million yuan. But this time, he even brought out his own ride, showing how much he cared.
Once inside, the driver closed the door. Sitting beside her, Wang Zilong’s baby face was full of disdain.

After driving for a while, Wang snorted coldly: “Just watch. An Xiyan isn’t the person you think she is. She’s dark and ugly inside and assumes everyone else is the same.”
Young master, already showing a sour face so early in the morning, and it’s all about An Xiyan after all.
Xi Ning glanced at the driver ahead, who actually knew the most, since the driver, after all, worked for Wang Zilong’s father.
She smiled faintly. “I told you, if An Xiyan doesn’t come to me within three days and use me to get your attention, then we’ll go our separate ways.”
Wang’s expression darkened further. “Why should she use you?”
“Because I’m dark and ugly inside, which highlights her noble quality as a pitiable orphan. She’s not worldly or scheming at all, pure and needing protection,” Xi Ning said bluntly, confident the driver would discreetly relay this to President Wang at the right moment.
The driver stole a glance via the rearview mirror. Xi Ning pretended not to see.
“You!” Wang Zilong was so provoked by her sarcasm that he wanted to punch her. But thinking of how he once caused Zhao’s arm to dislocate in a car accident, one punch might kill her outright. He took a deep breath. “She’s not scheming. She just wants to explain things clearly to you.”
Heh, Xi Ning turned her head to look out the window. “Then go accept her explanation. I just want her to stay away from me.”
The driver opened the door. Xi Ning got out and followed Wang Zilong into the school.
On the way, they ran into An Xiyan.
Where there is a male lead, there must be a female lead—that’s the rule. When the male lead is with a supporting female, the female lead will definitely appear.
Xi Ning caught a fleeting, unintentional flicker of jealousy in An Xiyan’s eyes and smirked inwardly. Sure enough, a black lotus—holding ambiguous relationships with four campus heartthrobs, tugging and pulling none of whom would leave, all while acting utterly pure. Yet it was the heartthrobs who came to her.
After hesitating, An Xiyan still approached.
Seeing her stride over, Wang Zilong’s expression changed. Xi Ning, however, cast a sideways contemptuous glance, her meaning clear: See? Here she comes!
An Xiyan asked softly and meekly, “Qingyu sister, Zilong brother, you two…”
“Zilong brother” — Xi Ning almost cringed. Li Qingyu had known Wang Zilong since childhood but never called him brother, yet An Xiyan dared to.
Xi Ning raised her eyebrows at Wang Zilong and strode toward the teaching building, leaving An Xiyan and Wang behind.
“Qingyu sister!” An Xiyan tried to catch up, but Wang Zilong grabbed her firmly.
“What are you doing?” An Xiyan struggled, but her small arm was trapped in Wang’s strong hand. Her face flushed. “Let go! I want to explain things clearly to Qingyu sister.”
This made Xi Ning stop, standing more than seven paces away, joining others to watch the drama unfold.
“Don’t get close to her,” Wang Zilong said honestly. What explanation? She didn’t want to hear it anyway.
“What do you mean?” An Xiyan’s large dark eyes welled up with crystal-clear tears, trembling in her sockets. Yet her frail body straightened stubbornly. “Why can’t I get close to Qingyu sister? Do you look down on me too? I’m poor, but I have pride. I must explain things clearly to Qingyu sister.”
Damn it, when have you ever explained anything clearly?
“That’s not what I mean!” Wang Zilong felt a headache coming on. He was inarticulate by nature and struggled to make An Xiyan understand not to disturb Li Qingyu; otherwise, she would think An Xiyan had ulterior motives.
“Then what do you mean?” Tears shimmered until they finally fell, laden with bitterness and grievance. “Zilong brother, I’ve really misjudged you. Turns out you’re just someone who looks down on the poor.”
“Oh, really?” Wang Zilong almost rolled his eyes.
Ha! Wang finally tasted the bitterness of being falsely accused, just like Li Qingyu. Xi Ning turned to leave. If they wanted to be lovey-dovey or disgusting, they could enjoy it themselves. She had no interest.
Unexpectedly, Leng Heming was also there, standing not far away, watching coldly.
Right in front of everyone, pulling and tugging—she didn’t believe this guy wouldn’t get jealous. But even if he did, what did it have to do with her? Xi Ning made a helpless face at him and continued on her way.
