Chapter 52: Go for it, Brother-in-Law 29
As soon as those sub-dragons caught sight of the adorable little dragon, they all swooped down from mid-air, their eyes utterly fixed on the pink, cute creature. What a lovely female dragon, I have never seen such a gorgeous color before... Oh, how I hope she can lay an egg for me... Saliva was dripping from their jaws one by one.
The fire dragon let out a cold snort, its sharp, golden gaze sweeping across them, instantly scaring them into shivering.
Xining glanced around; they were all sub-dragons. Dragons were naturally unruly and difficult to tame, and forming a contract with a sub-dragon was already considered a huge deal.
"What are you doing here?" the captain of the guard shouted.
He was mounted on a dragon, remaining in place. His own sub-dragon desperately wanted to draw closer to the pink sub-dragon, yet dared not approach the fire dragon. That conflicted and awkward posture was agonizing to watch.
Xining replied, "I am the head of the Pinfed family. We have family property in the city, and I am here to collect rent."
The dragon ridden by the captain was also a sub-dragon, though slightly more ferocious than those of the other dragon knights. It should be the offspring of a dragon and a magical beast like a tiger or leopard, massive in size.
Yet, seeing that the fire dragon was several times larger than his own sub-dragon, he turned green with envy. "You need to bring two dragons just to collect rent?"
"They are both mounts," Xining spread her hands. "Is it forbidden to bring one dragon each?"
Yeyu chimed in, "Even bringing two each is not against the law."
Could a dragon be obtained so casually? There were thousands of mercenaries, but those capable of forming a contract with the dragon race numbered fewer than thirty across the entire kingdom, and even fewer in other nations. Otherwise, why would dragon knights be considered so cool?
The captain looked at the gigantic fire dragon. "Have you formed a contract?"
"Bah! What humble human could ever form a contract with me!" A puff of smoke snorted from the fire dragon's nose, frightening the sub-dragons into shrinking back.
Xining warned in a low voice, "If we can't get into the city, you won't get any whole roasted sheep."
"Hmph~" The fire dragon let out a cold snort.
Xining explained, "I formed a contract with the sub-dragon. This is the sub-dragon's father; he couldn't bear to part with his daughter and tagged along. Please rest assured!"
The teammates glanced at the cute little dragon with a trace of suspicion. They had never seen such an adorable sub-dragon—pink, wearing a pinkish-purple bow. Looking at the ferocious appearance of the fire dragon, could they possibly be father and daughter?
"What kind of contract is it?" Seeing that there was no saddle mounted on the dragon, the captain asked. After all, a fire dragon of that size throwing a tantrum was no joke; it could burn the entire city to ashes.
"Master and servant!" As soon as Xining said this, the fire dragon felt a pang of heartache, so furious that smoke billowed from its nose.
They were all cunning humans who had tricked its precious daughter! If not for the master-and-servant contract, it would have definitely killed the contractor and dragged its daughter back to the cave... but not before eating a few more whole roasted sheep to compensate for the trauma it had suffered.
The head of the Pinfed family was supposed to be a legendary great beauty; how did she turn into an unpolished young girl? Being able to form a contract with a sub-dragon was already impressive enough, let alone a master-and-servant contract.
The captain cast a couple of extra glances, then noticed the embroidery on the
