Chapter 41: Come on, Brother-in-Law 18
Yeyu raised a hand, and Elsa’s mouth was instantly sealed shut. Her lips were pressed together so tightly she couldn't even open them, leaving her only able to emit muffled, nasal whimpers.
"Do you want to keep your nose?" Yeyu shot her a look so sharp and sinister that Elsa was too terrified to make another sound.
"Brother-in-law, hold on. My sister will be here soon." Seeing such a handsome man suffering, Xining felt an urge to tear Elsa apart.
"Sister! Sister! Where are you?" Maria’s anxious voice rang out from outside, echoing through the manor.
Maria was here! How could she be so fast? Elsa’s expression shifted the moment she heard her.
Xining could hardly believe it. Maria had actually arrived, and with such incredible speed. It was said the cave was far away, a three-day journey by carriage; if it weren't remote and secluded, it wouldn't be called a place for reclusive cultivation. Yet, not even a minute had passed since the threat began. She must have used a high-level teleportation spell.
Yeyu raised an eyebrow. "Your sister truly lives up to her reputation!"
Was she powerful, or just foolish?
Xining patted Slan on the shoulder, who was struggling to hold on, and looked at him with a heavy, encouraging gaze. "My sister is here... Brother-in-law, stay strong!"
Yeyu glanced at the solemn Miss Su Yun. He had finally witnessed it: the ultimate sister-saboteur! And she was so earnest about it, too.
Without another word, Slan struggled to his feet, reached out, and caught the staff that had been waiting nearby. He flew off into the sky with it.
Xining hurried to the stable entrance to watch, and was immediately stunned.
Maria was in mid-air. As the heroine of the world, her entrances were always spectacular. She was currently standing atop a sub-dragon, and this flying creature was bright pink.
The effect was no less jarring than seeing someone stand on a pink Cobra fighter jet; it was absolutely blinding.
Sub-dragons were offspring of true dragons and other species, usually possessing flesh as hard as stone and scales like metal. She had never seen anything like this!
Slan was in agony. Having suppressed his condition for a while, the potion now left his eyes bloodshot, and he was nearly losing all reason. Seeing the girl he loved right in front of him, he didn't say a word and charged straight at her.
Usually, they would exchange barbs before a fight, but today Slan went straight for it, catching Maria completely off guard!
By the time she recovered, the red-eyed Slan was already upon her. There was no room for long-range spells like ice spheres, fireballs, or lightning blades; it was pure hand-to-hand combat.
To be fair, Slan was powerful. With a few strikes of his staff, he sent the pink sub-dragon howling down to the ground, and with one more blow, he magically immobilized the still-dazed Maria. Slan lunged, swept her into his arms, and the two figures vanished from the sky.
Yeyu stood tall, clutching the staff. He sensed the surroundings for a moment, then a smirk touched his lips.
"How is it?" Xining knew Yeyu was tracking Slan’s situation.
"Don't worry about it," Yeyu said with a wicked smile. "They’re in my brother’s bedroom. He’ll certainly become your brother-in-law."
Sighing in relief, Xining rolled her eyes. Both brothers were handsome, but their styles were completely different. If Slan had possessed Yeyu’s temperament, she wouldn't have needed to go to such lengths to manipulate the situation.
Looking at the sub-dragon sprawled in the middle of the garden, Xining walked over to take a closer look.
The pink sub-dragon was lying flat, having crushed a large patch of flowers upon landing. Fortunately, its scales had protected it from the thorns. Though the scales felt soft, it was still a descendant of the dragon race and not so fragile.
Leaving the original host aside, even Yeyu muttered, "What did this dragon breed with?"
The sub-dragon looked aggrieved. Its large, pink eyes were also shedding tears, but because of its massive size, each tear was the size of a soccer ball, splashing into puddles upon hitting the ground.
Yeyu examined it closely. "Hasn't formed a contract yet?"
The pink sub-dragon sniffled with its fleshy nose. Its voice wasn't the deep rumble of the dragon race, but soft and high-pitched. "I didn't provoke anyone. I just wanted to come out and look around, and then a very fierce woman brought me here. Wuwuwu..."
Well, Maria was indeed the heroine; while coming to save her sister, she had kidnapped a dragon. The world of Mary Sue was so absurdly powerful it left one speechless.
"Don't cry, don't cry!" Xining reached out to stroke the pink sub-dragon’s head. Between the two red horns, the scales were surprisingly smooth and soft to the touch.
The cute sub-dragon twitched its wet nose and closed its eyes, looking quite comfortable.
Yeyu was caught between laughter and tears. "I’ve never seen such a weak sub-dragon."
Xining felt a surge of maternal affection and continued to stroke the dragon’s head. The creature seemed to enjoy the petting, squinting its eyes with its mouth curling upward.
Xining gave a wry smile.
Which of the dragon kin wasn't supposed to be ferocious? From true dragons and sub-dragons to pseudo-dragons and mongrels, their hierarchy was as rigid as that of mages, with vast differences in power. Even the lowest mongrel dragon had a tough, resilient body; when they bit someone, it was like a tiger biting a chicken.
For no reason other than it having been brought by Maria, this sub-dragon, whose power should have been second only to a true dragon, was this cute and pathetic.
Yeyu reached into the pouch at his waist, pulled out a core, tossed it into the air, and caught it—it transformed into a parchment scroll.
"Sign the contract!" Yeyu held the scroll out. "Between you and this dragon."
Xining was stunned. The cute sub-dragon immediately bristled, lifting its head and opening its large, watery pink eyes. "No! I can't sign a contract. If I do, my daddy will beat me to death. He has a very bad temper!"
Xining smiled bitterly. "Why would I sign a contract with a dragon? To be a dragon knight?"
"Even a weak sub-dragon is still a dragon. It can fly; at the very least, it can serve as a mount," Yeyu suggested. "It will make your escape faster."
Xining: "..."
Yeyu added with a touch of disdain, "Look at that color. What knight or mage would ride a pink dragon? Even your sister looked down on it and didn't bother with a contract. It suits you perfectly!"
Xining: "..."
The sub-dragon: "..."
Yeyu looked like a dragon-trafficker luring an ignorant hatchling, coaxing it with honeyed words: "You can just go back to the cave and stay with your fierce daddy. Or, you can sign a contract, stay by her side, and travel everywhere. Dragons like you are highly sought after by alchemists—they'd want your blood for potions, your heart for medicine, your bones for weapons, and your scales for amulets or armor. With a master, no one would dare touch you!"
The sub-dragon, perhaps unaware of how terrifying the human world could be, felt tears welling up again. "Then... then I'll go back to the cave. My daddy will protect me."
Yeyu continued the deception: "How about a thirty-year contract? After thirty years, you can do whatever you want. You can go back to that cave and stay with your fierce daddy. To a dragon with a lifespan of thousands of years, thirty years is just a blink of an eye."
"That, that..." The sub-dragon wavered, hesitating. "My daddy said you can't trust lowly humans; they are full of deceit. Maybe I should go back and ask my daddy first..."
