Chapter Sixty-Seven: A Lone Warrior Faces the Seven Fiends
“It’s you lot again. What, didn’t you get enough of a lesson last time?” Xiao Yu’s gaze swept coolly over Dai Mubai, Tang San, and Xiao Wu at the front. “Or do you think that with a few more helpers, you can swagger about in front of me?”
Dai Mubai shouted angrily, “Don’t be so arrogant! The humiliation you gave me that day—today, I’ll make you pay it back in full!”
“So your so-called revenge is to bring a whole gang and bully me with numbers?” Xiao Yu sneered, meeting Dai Mubai’s eyes. “I wasn’t wrong about you; you really are a coward through and through!”
“You—” Dai Mubai was left speechless by Xiao Yu’s retort. At the side, Zhu Zhuqing’s expression clearly wavered at the word ‘coward.’ Yes, she had always known Dai Mubai was a coward, but fate had already chained her to his side. Even if he was hopeless, she could only follow wherever he went.
The righteous King Tang, seeing Dai Mubai at a loss, took over. “We, the students of Shrek Academy, are a team. When one is in trouble, the others help. This isn’t bullying with numbers!”
“If you’re shameless, just admit it—why bother with these grand excuses? The day you take off your hypocrite’s mask, I might actually think better of you.” Xiao Yu brushed a speck of dust from his sleeve and strode toward the door. “If you want a fight, come outside. Don’t wreck other people’s property. With your lot’s character, I doubt you’d ever consider paying for the damage!”
The Shrek Seven Devils hung back. After all, a seven-person battle required some tactical discussion.
“San, what’s the plan?” As the fight drew near, the shadow of last time’s beating reappeared in Dai Mubai’s heart, making him hesitant. Zhu Zhuqing’s expression grew even more forlorn.
But the great King Tang was full of confidence. “Boss Dai, don’t worry. At his age, at best he’s a Soul Ancestor. With Rongrong’s Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda supporting you, your soul power can reach the realm of the Soul Ancestor. Plus, your White Tiger Spirit is a top beast martial soul. In a direct confrontation, you might not lose to him.”
Encouraged by Tang San’s words, Dai Mubai’s worries vanished. He looked triumphantly at Ning Rongrong. “Exactly! With the world’s greatest support martial soul backing me, let’s see how he dares to act so arrogant!”
Catching Dai Mubai’s gaze, Ning Rongrong nodded slightly in response. Because of many twists of fate, the notorious conflict between Dai Mubai and Ning Rongrong had never erupted, and their relationship was actually better than that between Tang San and Ning Rongrong, who were now more like debtor and creditor.
“Boss Dai, your soul power is the highest among us, so you’re the key to this fight. As long as you can withstand his attacks, the rest is simple!” King Tang continued to assign roles. “Zhuqing, Fatty, you two work with me to use your strengths and distract him so he can’t focus all his power on Boss Dai. Oscar, use all your soul power to make sausages so we can recover quickly. Even if his soul power is higher than all ours, we’re a team and he’s alone. In a battle of attrition, we’ll win!”
“Brother, what about me?” Xiao Wu couldn’t help asking.
Tang San smiled. “Don’t worry, Xiao Wu. You’re our ultimate weapon. When we’ve worn down his soul power, that’s your moment—use your Eight-Stage Throw and give him a real lesson!”
“Alright!” Xiao Wu grinned, twisting her neck in anticipation. “This time, I’ll make sure he remembers it!”
Ning Rongrong remained silent. Though she disliked Tang San for damaging her soul device before, she found no fault in his plan. All she had to do was support Dai Mubai. Moreover, with her martial soul revealed, anyone with sense would think twice before targeting her.
After finalizing their plan, the group strode out of the inn, forming a line. With Dai Mubai’s command, martial souls erupted—rings of yellow and purple light flashed as they all entered their martial soul possession states.
“Aren’t you going to show your martial soul?” Dai Mubai demanded, tiger eyes locked on Xiao Yu.
“To deal with you lot? I don’t need to,” Xiao Yu replied indifferently.
“You really are looking for death!” Dai Mubai’s first and third soul rings lit up, activating the White Tiger Body Barrier and White Tiger Vajra Transformation. He charged fiercely at Xiao Yu, shouting, “Rongrong, full support!”
The Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda in Ning Rongrong’s hands shone brightly, three soul skills all focused on Dai Mubai. With the pagoda’s terrifying boost, his thirty-seventh-level power was indeed enough to contend with a Soul Ancestor.
But, unfortunately, not even the mastermind Tang San could have imagined that the young man before them, not yet twenty, was in fact a Soul Emperor. Even with all the buffs pushing Dai Mubai to the Soul Ancestor level, he was still nearly twenty ranks below Xiao Yu.
A single punch—Dai Mubai’s tiger claw met Xiao Yu’s fist in a thunderous clash. Though Xiao Yu hadn’t activated his martial soul, his immense soul power, combined with the effects of the rare herbs from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, had transformed his body to terrifying levels.
A crisp crack sounded. Dai Mubai’s face contorted in agony; clearly, his bones had broken in that clash.
“Get lost!” Xiao Yu raised a foot and kicked Dai Mubai in the chest. Blood spurted from Dai Mubai’s mouth as he was sent flying.
“Mubai!” Zhu Zhuqing cried out. Though she rarely approved of Dai Mubai, if anything happened to him, she would be dragged down as well.
Without a second thought, Zhu Zhuqing darted after the airborne Dai Mubai. Her speed was so great that even Tang San, with his Purple Demon Eyes, caught only a blur.
Zhu Zhuqing’s speed was impressive among her peers, but Xiao Yu could clearly see her every movement. In a flash, he blocked her path.
“Move!” Zhu Zhuqing shouted, activating her first soul skill, the Nether Spike. Her claws slashed toward Xiao Yu.
He sidestepped her ferocious attack, and as they passed, he struck the back of her neck with a precise hand chop. Zhu Zhuqing’s body went limp, collapsing to the ground.
Xiao Yu had controlled his strength perfectly, ensuring she merely lost her ability to fight, not sustaining real injury. Of the three beauties of Shrek, she was the one he pitied most. Her talent was the weakest among the Seven Devils—her innate soul power barely above level seven—but through sheer will and diligence, she had never once fallen behind in level.
