The north-south stretch of the canal was only about a kilometer, and the Zhou and Wang residences stood close to the bridge spanning the river. Leaving the Zhou home, Li Xin decided to take the No. 11 bus.

He was brimming with questions and confusion.

First, how did Old Zhou even know about him? What was the real reason for inviting him over? Surely it couldn’t be just for breakfast.

Second, during their chat in the living room, Old Zhou’s words were laden with implication, almost as if he was hinting at Li Xin’s true identity.

Third, there was Zhou Yuhuan. Li Xin was certain that when she came downstairs, it was the first time they’d met, and Old Zhou hadn’t even said a word to her. Yet, how did she know about his situation? Stranger still, she’d obviously fabricated an excuse just to test his abilities.

There were too many suspicious points, and he didn’t even know where to begin unraveling them. Fortunately, the grandfather and granddaughter seemed to harbor no ill intentions; their eyes shone with sincere appreciation and goodwill toward him.

Besides, Zhou Yuhuan’s figure was rather impressive as well.

“Tsk tsk, that feel—seems a bit fuller and firmer than Wang Xiaoqian’s,” Li Xin fantasized, his eyes gleaming with mischief and a shameless grin on his face.

Bang!

So lost in thought was he that he failed to notice the telephone pole ahead and walked straight into it. His forehead turned blue with pain, and he grimaced, baring his teeth.

“Damn it!” Li Xin cursed under his breath, drawing laughter from the passersby, who found the scene quite amusing.

Embarrassed, he bolted like a startled rabbit, vanishing in a flash.

“What speed!” a young man exclaimed in awe.

People on the street nodded in amazement.

By the time he returned to the Wang house, it was already past nine in the morning. Wang Xiaoqian was still asleep, and Aunt Zhang was reheating the now-cold breakfast in the microwave. Seeing him come in, Aunt Zhang poked her head out and smiled.

“Li Xin, you’re back.”

“Yeah. Aunt Zhang, I already had breakfast outside. Just make something for her.”

“All right, I’ll take care of it. Go upstairs and wake her up. That little lazy pig—if you don’t call her, she’ll sleep till noon.” Aunt Zhang chuckled and ducked back into the kitchen.

Li Xin shook his head with a smile and headed upstairs.

Knock, knock, knock—no answer.

Knock, knock, knock—still no answer.

Only the blaring music could be heard. Li Xin knew that Wang Xiaoqian liked to play music while she slept.

“What the hell? Out cold?” he muttered, a hint of worry flickering in his heart.

Could something have happened?

“Xiaoqian? Xiaoqian? Are you still asleep? Can you hear me? I’m coming in.”

He pushed open the door. A high-end HiVi speaker worth tens of thousands was blasting an energetic K-pop tune by 2PM. It was a real adrenaline rush. With music like this blaring, Li Xin was speechless that anyone could sleep.

Wang Xiaoqian’s bedroom was huge, like a small one-bedroom apartment. The outer area was open, and only after passing a semi-transparent glass wall did you reach the sleeping area. Having stayed here so long, Li Xin was already intimately familiar with the layout, and he walked in without a second thought.

Mmm... ah...

A faint, indistinct sound caught his attention. Li Xin frowned, curiosity piqued, and slipped inside.

Freeze.

On the wide Simmons bed, the covers had been tossed aside. Wang Xiaoqian lay stark naked, limbs spread wide, her legs raised high in the air. Her left hand kneaded her chest, while her right ventured below.

Everything—every detail—happened to be in full view from the entrance through the glass wall, imprinting itself clearly on Li Xin’s mind.

He hadn’t expected to stumble upon such an explicit scene.

Nor did she expect anyone to barge in. The music was loud, and she was lost in the moment, teetering on the edge of climax.

The instant she saw Li Xin, her body trembled violently; waves of pleasure and the sound of rushing water filled the air. Shame surged through her like a tidal wave, overwhelming her mind—but in a strange twist, it only heightened her ecstasy.

In an instant, Wang Xiaoqian melted into a pool of softness.

Or perhaps, more fittingly, like tofu floating in water.

“I… I didn’t mean to, I didn’t see anything,” Li Xin stammered, flustered. He turned and fled in panic.

“Stop right there!”

Wang Xiaoqian suddenly called out, “Come back here!”

As if under a spell, Li Xin obediently turned back.

“Was it beautiful?” Wang Xiaoqian’s almond-shaped eyes shimmered. She had wrapped herself in the covers, but her cheeks remained flushed, her brow beaded with sweat. Through an open corner of the blanket, Li Xin could still see the damp spot on the sheets.

“I didn’t see anything.”

“Didn’t see?” Wang Xiaoqian giggled. The earlier shame was gone; now, as she spoke, her heart thudded wildly, her hormones surging.

Beneath the striped white quilt, her delicate body trembled anew. Wang Xiaoqian brazenly let out a few moans and closed her eyes, the gesture dripping with provocative allure.

Damn.

Li Xin muttered, feeling as if a thousand wild horses thundered through his mind, leaving chaos in their wake.

He bolted, not daring to look back even once.

“Heh… what a silly fool,” Wang Xiaoqian slowly opened her eyes, which sparkled with mischief.

“Whew… what a terrifying crazy woman,” Li Xin howled, fleeing into the en suite bathroom. In a flurry, he stripped off his clothes and took a cold shower.

He felt chilled to the bone, but also oddly elated.

For all his twenty-six years, and despite having dated the beautiful Lin Guo for four years, their relationship had been more like close friends than lovers; they’d never done anything out of line. Truthfully, Li Xin was still a virgin—a boy who knew much about the world but had never experienced it for himself.

For the rest of that day, he didn’t step outside his room once, at a loss as to how to face Wang Xiaoqian.

Her behavior was hardly inappropriate—after all, what she did behind her own closed doors was her own business. Yet Li Xin felt as if a thorn had lodged itself in his heart, leaving him unsettled and distracted.

He donned his VR headset several times, but it kept failing to log in. The latest update was massive and troublesome. With no other computers in the house and nothing else to do, he poured himself into mobile games, playing as a mysterious godlike player and dominating the arena.

Deep into the night, with everyone else asleep, only the roar of the canal’s rushing water and the engines of passing boats disturbed the silence.

“Are you asleep?” Wang Xiaoqian’s soft, teasing voice floated to him.

“I’m asleep.”

“Asleep and still talking? Hehe, idiot.”

“Uh…”

“I’m coming in,” Wang Xiaoqian suddenly announced.

“No, don’t—I really am asleep,” Li Xin hurriedly replied, quickly turning off the light.

Click—the room plunged into darkness. Disappointment flickered in the beauty’s eyes as she turned to leave. But at the very moment she opened the door across the hallway, Wang Xiaoqian paused, the corners of her mouth curling into a wicked smile. She tiptoed back.

The solid wood door made no sound as she opened it. With the lights off and Li Xin hiding under the covers, engrossed in his game, he didn’t notice a thing.

A gentle hand slipped under the blanket. Then an arm, then half a body—until her head and feet were both inside.

“Big brother, I’ve come to keep you company.”

Before the words had faded, Wang Xiaoqian was already sprawled atop Li Xin.
