Chapter 41: First Encounter with the Titan Zombie, Wrapping Up and Returning to the City
The young man almost coughed up blood upon hearing that!
What kind of remark was that? I am covered in blood and completely battered, while only your shoes have a tiny bit of dust on them?
Seeing that the zombies had ceased their attacks, the young man shifted his attention back to the two of them, though his arrogant and domineering attitude remained entirely unchanged.
"Hey kid, hurry up and find a vehicle to drive me back to Freedom City. Actually, never mind, just find me some water and food first."
The young man issued his commands in a patronizing tone, acting as though he were Li Xingyue's boss.
His words made Li Xingyue chuckle once again: "Brother, it's been quite a while now, and I still don't know your name?"
Seeing that Li Xingyue had not followed his instructions, the young man grew somewhat irritated: "Your father's name is Wu Di! Why are you wasting time flapping your gums? Get moving and find me some food right now, or I'll finish you off!"
Li Xingyue gently shook his head: "Brother Wu Di, it seems you still don't understand the current situation. If you keep acting this arrogant, your death won't be far off."
Wu Di gritted his teeth, his gaze carrying a hint of murderous intent.
"Damn it, do you think that just because I'm exhausted, I can't kill you? Let me tell you, as a Tier 3, taking out a Tier 2 like you is child's play!"
Li Xingyue showed not a shred of fear. Instead, he patted Gui Ye's shoulder and looked over at Wu Di.
"Brother Wu Di, allow me to formally and grandly introduce this companion of mine. His name is Gui Ye, and he is a Tier 8 Zombie King. What are you waiting for? Go on and shake hands with each other!"
Gui Ye maintained his indifferent expression and obediently extended his right hand toward Wu Di.
Upon hearing this, Wu Di froze. He looked at Gui Ye, then back at Li Xingyue, before bursting into a fit of loud laughter that took quite a while to subside.
"I thought you were actually somebody, but it turns out you're just a complete moron. Isn't he just your younger brother? Besides, do you take me for a fool? There are only four Tier 8 Zombie Kings in existence, and none of them is named Gui Ye!"
Li Xingyue spread his hands: "I knew you'd say that. Come on, Gui Ye, show him what you've got. Remember to make it a bit fierce!"
Gui Ye nodded thoughtfully, then opened his arms, slowly closed his eyes, and continued to mutter under his breath.
Thump, thump, thump!
Rumble, rumble!
"What the hell, is there an earthquake?"
Li Xingyue suddenly felt the ground begin to tremble, accompanied by a continuous roaring sound echoing from the distance. His first reaction was that an earthquake had struck!
Wu Di also wore a tense expression, assuming the tremors were caused by a massive seismic event.
As the sound and vibrations grew increasingly intense, Wu Di and Li Xingyue finally caught sight of what was happening in that direction!
Although the night was pitch-black, both of them were Evolvers with vision superior to ordinary people. They discovered that a few giants, standing twenty to thirty meters tall, had suddenly appeared a hundred meters ahead!
"What the absolute hell is that?!"
"Brother, this is one of the zombie variants—a Titan Zombie. You said you wanted something a bit fierce, so I called them over."
After Gui Ye offered this explanation, Li Xingyue finally understood. Good grief, to think there were zombies of such monstrous size!
As for Wu Di, he was utterly dumbfounded at that moment, having heard every single word of their conversation loud and clear. This guy really was a Tier 8 Zombie King! That was impossible!
Li Xingyue lit a cigarette, turned his head to look at Wu Di: "Well, Brother Di, do you believe it now? After all, I'm an honest man who always speaks the absolute truth."
Wu Di's mind was in turmoil. There were several lingering questions he couldn't wrap his head around.
First, weren't there only four Tier 8 Zombie Kings, none of whom went by the name Gui Ye?
Second, even if this guy really was a newly promoted Zombie King, how could he possibly mingle with humans and even address a human as "brother"?
It completely defied all logic. In his worldview, whenever a Zombie King encountered humans, they would slaughter them instantly. After all, anyone who had ever laid eyes on a Zombie King was practically already a dead man.
Wu Di was no ordinary individual, however, and he managed to calm himself down fairly quickly as he looked at Gui Ye.
"If you truly are a Zombie King, why are you hanging out with this human? Aren't you afraid that other Zombie Kings will find out and come after you? Or could it be that you have some sort of weakness or leverage held over you by him?"
Wu Di fired off a series of questions. He couldn't help it; he desperately wanted to know the reason, especially since what he had just witnessed clashed so violently with his entire worldview.
Seeing Wu Di's expression and demeanor, Li Xingyue felt an incomparable rush of ecstasy!
He finally understood why major villains always loved to talk so much. Being able to control someone else's life and death while answering their questions and showcasing your own supreme badassery felt simply wonderful!
"That's something you wouldn't know. The four Zombie Kings you mentioned earlier happen to be my sworn brothers. You didn't expect that, did you?"
Wu Di had completely figured it out by now. This exceptionally handsome young man was genuinely a Tier 8 Zombie King, and he really was living in peaceful coexistence with this human.
Holy crap!
Panic began to surge within his heart. Just moments ago, when he had repeatedly tried to finish off Li Xingyue, he had been fully convinced that he held both of their lives in the palm of his hand. Yet now, the tables had completely turned.
At the same time, he felt a wave of speechless exasperation, silently cursing Li Xingyue for being such a cunning fox. Why hadn't he mentioned such an insane backing earlier? If he had, who would have ever dared to make a move against him? Even the acting city lord of Freedom City would probably have to crawl out of here if he came across this...
"Big Brother! I had no idea you possessed such an incredible background. I... I was wrong! I'm an idiot, please spare my life!"
Wu Di was quick on his feet. He immediately dropped to his knees and began kowtowing, begging for mercy without cease until his forehead was bruised and bleeding.
"Where are my wristbands?"
Hearing this, Wu Di hurriedly straightened up and swiftly pulled a handful of wristbands from his pocket, handing them over to Li Xingyue: "Take them all, I don't want a single one!"
Li Xingyue looked at the seven or eight additional wristbands in his hand, smiled, and nodded, expressing his utmost satisfaction.
"Not bad. You're actually a pretty decent guy, but why do you insist on using your mouth to talk? I really dislike that trait. Gui Ye, finish him."
"Thank you, huh? What? No, don't, ahhhhh!"
A minute later, Wu Di had completely vanished from this world, while the nearby zombies contentedly rubbed their fully stuffed bellies.
Li Xingyue glanced at the scattered limbs, bloodstains, weapons, and wristbands littering the ground, but chose not to pick them up.
He stood in silent contemplation for a brief moment, exchanged a few words with Gui Ye, patted him on the shoulder, and drove away in a vehicle found lingering at the perimeter.
As for Gui Ye, after watching Li Xingyue drive far off into the distance, he hoisted a sack of comic books from the back of a large truck and melted into the night.
Li Xingyue drove all the way to the plaza in District C and returned to the dormitory. Pushing the door open, he saw Yellow Teeth, Liu Yi, and the others immediately spring to their feet.
"Damn it, you're finally back!"
"Captain, I thought you weren't going to make it."
"Yeah, earlier I heard people outside shouting about zombies. What on earth happened in Xinghai City?"
Looking at their genuine expressions of concern, a warm feeling welled up inside Li Xingyue. He gave a vague, half-truthful account of what had transpired—naturally omitting the detail that Gui Ye was a Zombie King.
"Well, judging by what you're saying, quite a few people must have died tonight!"
"You bet. When a thousand or so people run into a horde of zombies, they vanish just like that. Tsk tsk, it really makes one reflect on the fragility of life."
Watching Yellow Teeth swagger around and put on the airs of a literary scholar, Li Xingyue felt an irresistible urge to act, planting a solid kick right on the fellow's backside.
"Stop spitting out that tasteless nonsense and hurry up and buy me some food!"
