It's officially launched!

At last, the time has come again. After so many years of struggling with little success, this book is the first to bring me onto Sanjiang. Although making it onto Sanjiang doesn’t necessarily mean the book will become popular, at least it shows me that all these years of perseverance have not been in vain.

I am not a full-time writer, so the updates for this book have always been rather inconsistent—I’m well aware of that myself. But there’s nothing I can do; after all, we all must make a living.

Life can never be perfectly smooth in every regard, for if it were, it would hardly be life at all.

Enough with the lamenting—let’s talk about the book’s official launch.

Let me say a few words about the protagonist of this book. Originally, I intended to create an ordinary character, someone who doesn’t compose poetry or drive industrial progress. But since I personally love extreme sports, this particular setting emerged.

Regarding the historical period depicted in the book, to be honest, I believe that only by listening to all sides can one arrive at clarity. The outcomes of history are already known to us, but the reasons behind those outcomes can be interpreted from many different perspectives.

Take Wu Zetian, for example. I believe she truly loved Li Zhi, and she loved her own children as well. This does not contradict the fact that she became an emperor.

Looking over the empress’s life, her contradictions are many. It is true that she was talented in employing capable people and made wise decisions, and it is also true that she used cruel officials and eliminated her rivals. She advocated for agriculture and rest for the people, and it is also true that she indulged in building temples and allowed her favorites to interfere in governance.

This book, then, is my own interpretation of that era. Of course, as the story progresses, the protagonist’s existence will cause increasingly significant butterfly effects, and events will inevitably diverge completely from the history we know, creating a new story altogether—a way to make up for certain regrets, even if only in fantasy.
