"Big sister, please don’t say such laughable things again," Qin Hongfei said. "Pregnancy happens when sperm meets egg. If holding hands could get you pregnant, the world’s population would have exploded long ago and we’d have to enforce strict birth control policies."

Qin Fei was stunned. "Is that true?"

She had finished middle school, but in this era and in a small city, this kind of knowledge wasn’t widely taught, and the teachers were vague about it.

Qin Hongfei thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yes. After the sperm and egg meet, they form a zygote, which implants in the uterus and develops into an embryo. That’s how pregnancy begins. Sometimes it can even develop into twins, though the chances of both surviving are less than a single baby..." She paused, realizing she’d forgotten some of the details, and looked at Tang Jinnan.

Catching her gaze, Tang Jinnan thought that for Qin Hongfei’s age, she seemed to know a bit too much. Still, he faced the eager eyes before him and explained, "With twins, it’s easy for one to absorb more nutrients than the other. During embryonic development, one can sometimes absorb the other to survive..."

This was already far beyond the normal school curriculum.

Everyone hearing this for the first time felt a chill. "So, isn’t that like one killing the other?"

Tang Jinnan replied, "It’s just an embryo. If it didn’t happen that way, neither might survive. In clinical terms, a baby only really has its own life after about six months of development in the womb."

One spoke lightly of conception.

Qin Hongfei realized she’d gone off track. Who had started it? Forget it, not important. "Did you already try finding someone else for repairs?"

The young man looked frustrated. "We’ve tried everything, even brought in other engineers, but nothing worked." His father was practically frantic with worry.

Qin Hongfei considered for a moment. "Recovering data is actually simple—much simpler than repairing the computer itself. I normally don’t take on jobs like this." Charging too much felt like cheating people, but not charging anything felt like a waste of her time.

The young man barely heard anything but the key point... simple, very simple! He looked at her desperately. "Comrade, I won’t hide it from you—this data is for my father’s work. He’s a good person but has made plenty of enemies. There are people just waiting to catch him out. If he can’t recover this data and gets fired, my whole family will be left out in the cold."
