Chapter 7: The Multidimensional Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association!
This statement transformed the impending apocalypse into a “test,” and not just any test, but yet another trial—indeed, it could inspire a measure of courage and confidence.
Beyond that, there were numerous other highly praised comments.
“This isn’t the end of the world; it’s just a war!”
“It’s not like the planet is exploding or the sun has gone dark. It’s just monsters—kill the monsters and they die. What’s there to fear?”
“Is this still reality?”
“A forty-three-year-old veteran has already bid farewell to his family and set out to answer the call, determined to hold the monsters at the front lines!”
“Humanity has endured thousands upon thousands of years—why must it fall upon us to face this?”
“Unity! Unity! Unity! Without unity, death will come much faster!”
“...”
Among these comments, it was clear that fear and anxiety still permeated some, but as Ji Mingshu had observed, the overall emotional tone remained positive.
Many people were spontaneously offering each other encouragement.
This was undoubtedly the best possible outcome.
Had despair and pessimism taken hold from the start—disorder erupting, chaos reigning—even with support from two other worlds, Shen Yu’s task would have been infinitely more difficult.
Moreover, it was impossible to treat those other worlds merely as sources to draw from without giving anything in return.
Both versions of Shen Yu had families of their own.
Still, Shen Yu understood that the positivity people displayed stemmed primarily from two sources.
First, the series of proactive measures enacted by the upper echelons.
Second, the crisis had not yet truly descended upon this land.
The previous three meteorite incidents had all occurred abroad, creating a certain sense of distance.
“Boss, there’s another matter to report,” Ji Mingshu said again after Shen Yu finished reviewing the material. “Firstly, the domestic company’s security department has collectively submitted their resignations.”
Shen Yu looked up.
The screen on the computer had already switched to another page.
Although the Shen Corporation’s main operations were overseas, their domestic company was also sizable.
It employed over thirteen hundred people, with more than two hundred forty in security.
The head of the security department was Hu Tao, a robust and disciplined middle-aged man.
On his resignation letter were only six characters:
“If war comes, we will answer the call!”
Their reason for resigning was unmistakably clear.
“Were all the recruits veterans? Did any remain behind?” Shen Yu asked.
“As per your instructions, we tried to hire retired soldiers for domestic security,” Ji Mingshu replied softly. “Only three non-veteran security personnel remain. The domestic security force is now seriously understaffed. I recommend promptly transferring key personnel from overseas and recruiting at high salaries domestically to complete a swift handover. Other employees also require reassurance to maintain order within the company.”
The urgency need not be stated.
Shen Corporation’s primary assets were heavy industry—cargo, factories, land.
Domestic warehouses still held substantial resources.
All required protection.
Yet, Shen Yu had other thoughts now.
“Is there any way to contact the head of the meteorite crisis response department in Linhai City?” he asked directly.
“Are you considering donating some domestic assets to gain protection or other resources?” Ji Mingshu guessed.
But Shen Yu shook his head.
He looked up at his capable assistant, who had followed him faithfully for seven years, and after a moment’s thought, decided to reveal some information.
While reviewing the data earlier, he had already formed an idea—a framework.
“You should have some understanding of my abilities,” Shen Yu said.
“Yes.” Ji Mingshu’s eyes widened slightly, her heartbeat quickening.
Though she knew Shen Yu possessed extraordinary skills and had witnessed some firsthand, he had never explained or introduced them in detail.
Nor had he ever volunteered to discuss them as he was doing now.
Could it be that the boss was about to lift a veil of mystery?
“My abilities primarily lie in two areas,” Shen Yu continued. “One involves spatial powers—storage and space traversal—though I cannot carry living beings through it. The other is related to merit and virtue; I can manifest merit tangibly. By performing good deeds and helping others, I gain power from a mysterious realm. The assistance I provide you also stems from this.”
Ji Mingshu said nothing, but her flushed face betrayed her excitement.
She had, in fact, long suspected these two abilities.
The spatial power was related to one of the group’s core industries and thus could not be hidden.
Meanwhile, the boss’s years of relentless charitable work—his intensity and dedication—had surpassed the usual bounds of “kindness” or “seeking reputation.”
Adding his sudden substantial investments in the medical industry and other subtle signs, it was not difficult to deduce.
It was almost an unspoken understanding between the two.
Yet, even knowing this, hearing it directly from Shen Yu carried extraordinary significance for Ji Mingshu.
It felt as though their relationship had deepened.
Moreover, she sensed this was not the end.
The boss had something even more important to share.
“This is all the power I had before today,” Shen Yu said.
Just as Ji Mingshu had suspected, he smiled and continued, “You’re smart; you must have noticed that I’m in good spirits since returning.”
“Yes.” Ji Mingshu nodded slightly, her eyes shining. “For the past six months, the boss has been anxious, but now, that anxiety seems completely gone. At least, that’s how it appears to me.”
Ji Mingshu was not yet skilled enough to read a person’s mood outright, but she knew Shen Yu intimately.
Over the years, Shen Yu had been a workaholic, and so had she.
Their time together often far surpassed that spent with family.
What could have dispelled the boss’s anxiety?
At this moment, Ji Mingshu held her breath.
“Just a few hours ago, an organization from beyond our world contacted me,” Shen Yu said solemnly. “Its official name is the Multidimensional Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association!”
“—!”
Even though Ji Mingshu was prepared, this battle-hardened professional could not help but gape in disbelief, utterly taken aback.
Had the boss not worn a serious expression, she would have thought it a joke.
The Multidimensional Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association?
The meaning of those words was clear, yet precisely because they were so clear, they were also astonishingly unbelievable.
