Chapter 38: I Will Compensate You
Qin Min, who had harbored the same intention, felt the smile on his lips fade as he set his smart device aside.
"The Commander is certainly swift. Could it be that you knew Fu needed a formal gown all along?"
The mention of Yun Fu attending the banquet had only just occurred, implying that Gu Lin had been secretly observing her.
Gu Lin’s tone remained steady. "I merely noticed while in her dressing room that she lacked a few formal gowns, so I had some custom-made."
Yun Fu scrolled through the images on her device, only to find that she could not reach the bottom of the list. These were not merely "a few"—there were millions. However, every gown was handmade with a unique design, clearly reflecting a great deal of effort. Yun Fu offered a word of praise.
"Gu Lin, you were very thoughtful. These gowns are all beautiful."
Seeing that Yun Fu truly liked the dresses, Qin Min felt a pang of stifled resentment, though he still instructed his staff to finish the gowns he had ordered. Yun Fu was delicate and temperamental, but she had a soft heart; there would always be a time for her to wear the outfits he had commissioned.
After browsing for a long time, Yun Fu’s hands grew numb. Every dress was exquisite, making it difficult to choose. Finally, she selected a silver mermaid-tail gown. Since her escort was a silver merman, wearing this dress would be a perfect match. Upon seeing this, the shadow in Qin Min’s eyes vanished, leaving only Yun Fu reflected in his pale blue gaze.
The banquet was to be held in the evening. Shortly after she made her choice, Gu Lin’s adjutant delivered the gown to the villa, accompanied by a stylist to assist with her makeup and jewelry.
The adjutant watched as Yun Fu and Qin Min attended to their styling, while his own Commander could only stand by, unable to attend the banquet. He couldn't help but marvel at the Commander’s composure; to watch his female mate appear in public with another beast-man partner while he remained at home, yet still calmly arrange every detail for her—such spirit was truly a model for all the beast-men in the Empire.
Gu Lin, who was being so highly praised by the adjutant, waited until Yun Fu went to the dressing room for her necklace. Suddenly, the dragon tail of the black dragon coiled around her waist, lifting her onto the vanity table. His gloved hands threaded through her thick, dark hair, cupping her head as he pressed his burning lips to hers.
The black dragon was urgent, yet he remained focused on Yun Fu, carefully guiding her to ensure his mate was comfortable. Truth be told, Yun Fu did not dislike it. However, the kiss had smudged the lip glaze she had just applied. She glared at him, pushed him away, and checked the mirror, chiding him.
"My lipstick is ruined."
Gu Lin lowered his gaze, his large hand resting on her waist. "Do not worry, I will compensate you."
Before long, Gu Lin clumsily but earnestly reapplied the lip glaze. He then produced a red velvet box from his spatial storage, took out the necklace inside, and fastened it around her neck.
"What is this?" Yun Fu asked, looking at the shimmering necklace.
Gu Lin let down her hair and smoothed it out. Seeing the necklace resting against her slender, fair throat, he felt a sense of relief—it was a perfect fit.
"A peace offering for ruining your makeup."
The ruby set in the necklace was something Gu Lin had spotted on a planet while returning from the Contaminated Zone. Even then, he had felt that such a brilliant gem would be the perfect embellishment for Yun Fu. Upon returning, he had polished and set it himself, and now, it looked truly fitting.
Yun Fu looked up at him. "The Commander certainly knows how to plan ahead."
To have a peace offering for a kiss prepared in advance—was the black dragon truly a member of such a carnal race? Her colleagues at the medical center had been right after all. She had not expected that her seemingly calm and disciplined Commander was actually like this.
Gu Lin could not refute her and helplessly accepted the female's assessment.
With Yun Fu delayed and Gu Lin also nowhere to be found, Qin Min cast a cold glance at the adjutant who had been trying to engage him in conversation. Ignoring him, he headed straight for Yun Fu’s room.
The adjutant, who had merely been trying to learn Yun Fu’s preferences on behalf of his Commander, was left stunned by that icy glare. *Wait, what happened? Why is everyone leaving?*
