Chapter 217: The Arrogant Qin Family
Jiang Yu found their pursuit understandable. If it were merely secular martial arts like Taekwondo, Jeet Kune Do, Judo, or Tai Chi, they would naturally struggle to capture much attention. However, as the martial arts world began to reveal even a glimpse of its formidable power to the secular masses, they would discover that a small group of people in this world possessed strength beyond their comprehension.
The ability to kill with a flick of a finger or ride the wind appeared godlike to ordinary people. Those who entered the martial arts world and became experts in condensed energy could ward off illness and prolong their lives, with most martial artists living well beyond ninety years. How could an ordinary person resist such temptations? Compared to this, massive fortunes and overwhelming power were nothing but fleeting mist. With sufficient strength, those things could be attained with ease. This was why, in an age of firearms, martial artists were experiencing a resurgence, returning to their roots.
Within twenty years at most, the status of martial artists would be known to the world. Jiang Yu could foresee a global wave of martial arts enthusiasm; for many, the mere prospect of longevity and physical vitality held a fatal attraction. Only when plagued by illness does one realize the value of health. For a martial artist, strength was merely one of a hundred benefits.
Jiang Yu’s eyes could peer through the sisters' bodies. Under his gaze, their flesh, bones, and internal organs were clearly visible. Such techniques were akin to X-ray vision, capable of discerning the fundamental essence of the world. Jiang Yu, however, had no intention of using these supernatural abilities for sordid purposes. In his eyes, no matter how beautiful one’s appearance or figure might be, if they did not reach the Golden Core stage and attain eternal life, they would be nothing more than skeletons in pink makeup a few decades later.
"Not bad, there is some potential. Three thousand years ago, they would have at least been strong enough for the Foundation Establishment stage." Unfortunately, they were born at the wrong time, missing the spring of heaven and earth. He mused to himself, no longer paying the sisters any mind.
The day passed in silence. By the evening of the second day, the group arrived at Baiyang Town by car. The sisters were in high spirits, chattering incessantly about strange tales and curiosities. Upon reaching the town, Jiang Yu noticed many out-of-town license plates, most belonging to teenagers around eighteen or nineteen. The team leaders were experts in condensed energy, their internal techniques matching those of the girl from the Qin family; they were evidently members of the Qin clan.
At a restaurant, an old man pouring tea explained to the Lu sisters, "These are the wealthy children who come to the Qin clan to practice martial arts every year. They go through layers of screening and then gather here in Baiyang Town. Eventually, the 'immortals' of the Qin clan will come to take them away."
The Lu sisters nodded in understanding. The younger sister said with a mournful face, "Sis, will they even want us? Forget five million; we only have three thousand yuan on us right now. Should I try to find a boyfriend from the Qin clan and pull some strings?"
The elder sister, Lu Zhuyin, frowned delicately. "Do you think they’d even look at you? Countless women are dying to climb into their beds."
The sisters had acted on impulse without any preparation, and now that they were in Baiyang Town, they were filled with anxiety.
"Oh, what should I do? I don't want to go home just like this." The younger sister blinked her large eyes, looking truly pitiful.
Jiang Yu drank his tea calmly, neither hearing nor asking. Having reached his level, he rarely interfered in the affairs of others. The girl from the Qin family hesitated for a moment; throughout the journey, she had conversed deeply with the sisters and had formed a favorable impression of them.
She looked at the Lu sisters and asked, "Do you truly wish to join the Qin clan to practice?"
The sisters nodded vigorously, like chickens pecking at rice.
The girl from the Qin family stood up. "Wait here for me, I’m going to make a phone call."
With that, she pulled out her phone and stepped outside. The Lu sisters watched her with half-doubtful expressions. The younger sister asked cautiously, "Sis, do you think she can really do it? It feels a bit unreliable—a girl around our age, what kind of influence could she possibly have?"
Lu Zhuyin shook her head. "I don't know." Even so, their faces remained a mix of nervousness and expectation.
Jiang Yu set down his teacup and smiled. "If you want to enter the Qin clan to practice, a single phone call from her can solve it. Do you know who she is?"
The sisters stared at each other. "Who is she?"
Jiang Yu found them rather cute and was willing to say a bit more. "She is the eldest daughter of the Qin clan. Never mind getting you into the Qin clan to practice; even securing you a good position would be effortless."
"Ah?" The sisters’ cherry-red mouths opened wide, their eyes filled with shock. The daughter of the Qin family? Just the title alone was enough to show that her status within the clan was incredibly high.
Jiang Yu continued with a smile, "Even the 'immortals' you see must listen to her."
Lu Zhuyin asked Jiang Yu curiously, "Then what about you? What is your status in the Qin clan? To be traveling with the eldest daughter of the Qin clan, you must be very powerful, right?"
Contrary to their expectations, Jiang Yu shook his head nonchalantly. "I am just a nobody. Like you, I am only going to the Qin clan for some personal business."
"Oh..." Hearing that Jiang Yu had no significant status, the younger sister simply stopped paying attention to him, looking elsewhere with disappointment.
Soon, a young man in casual clothes walked in. His cultivation had already reached the condensed energy stage. He looked arrogant, his gaze fixed far above the common folk. Upon entering the restaurant, he looked at no one, his overbearing attitude evident.
"Greetings, Immortal Master." The restaurant waiter greeted him with a fawning smile. It was no joke; the entire town of Baiyang relied on these people to make a living. Every year, the wealthy children who came to practice at the Qin clan spent money like water, and the hotels, street food stalls, and restaurants all relied on these people to survive. Occasionally, the Qin clan would spill a little profit, which significantly improved the standard of living for the locals.
The young man grunted, his hands behind his back. He walked up to Jiang Yu and the Lu sisters and said coldly, "Prepare yourselves. Tomorrow morning, you will join the main group to report and register at the Qin clan."
The girl from the Qin family glanced at the Lu sisters, unable to hide the smugness on her face. The sisters cheered; pulling strings was indeed satisfying.
"Sister Qin, you are so amazing!" The younger sister began addressing her as "Sister Qin" immediately.
"This person is Qin Chang, and he is responsible for all the registration for you two. We’ll head to the Qin clan together tomorrow morning." The girl from the Qin family sat down and began to eat.
Back on her home turf, she finally felt a bit more confident in front of Jiang Yu. Qin Chang sat down but did not touch his chopsticks, merely sipping tea. His gaze swept back and forth over the Lu sisters, a strange glint in his eyes—such pure girls, and their figures were not bad either.
"Hello, Brother Qin. Please take care of us in the future," Lu Zhuyin said with a smile.
Qin Chang nodded. "Since Miss Qin called me to look after you, we certainly won't neglect our duties."
That aloof, superior demeanor made the Lu sisters look at him with adoration. In their eyes, this person was a figure of high status and a worldly immortal; it was only natural for him to act this way.
After the meal, Qin Chang acted as if he were bestowing a great favor by offering to take everyone around Baiyang Town. Jiang Yu finally realized the lofty status the Qin clan disciples held in the secular world; many locals would bow in respect whenever they encountered them, smiling and calling them "Immortal Master." They could eat, drink, and play without ever paying a cent.
On the streets, many young men and women were being led by members of the Qin clan. With the arrival of so many youths, Baiyang Town was full of vitality, and business was better than usual.
The next morning, everyone set off on the road into the mountains. Baiyang Town had specifically provided four or five large buses, each capable of carrying twenty people. Everyone heading to the Qin clan to practice was required to take the bus, after which the drivers would transport them into the heart of the Qin clan’s territory. For this purpose, the Qin clan had spent nine hundred million to pave several asphalt roads stretching over a hundred kilometers, making the drive only a little over two hours.
On the bus, face after face, young and naive, was filled with excitement. There were both men and women. Qin Chang stood up and said, "Before we arrive, I must remind everyone: once you enter the Qin clan, you are merely student disciples. No matter how wealthy you are or how powerful your background is, in the Qin clan, you must bow your heads. If you are a dragon, you coil; if you are a tiger, you crouch."
"In short, the people of the Qin clan are your parents. If they tell you to go east, you are not allowed to go west. Anyone who dares to defy a member of the Qin clan will be immediately expelled and barred from entering for life."
They said that people from the Qin clan were arrogant beyond measure, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The wealthy children, who were usually overbearing and reckless, all sat on the bus with stiff, nervous expressions.
"Of course, the Qin clan has many immortal masters. In the future, if anyone in your family falls ill or suffers from an incurable disease, you can bring them to the Qin clan for treatment."
Within the carriage, people began to discuss this, truly awestruck and worshipful to the extreme. Jiang Yu noticed that many of the Qin clan members were embracing some of the young women intimately. These women even treated this as an honor.
"Does the Qin family not control this?" Jiang Yu asked curiously.
The girl from the Qin family said coldly, "Being able to gain the favor of a Qin clan disciple is a blessing for these ordinary people."
Jiang Yu gave a cold, mocking laugh.
"What a bold claim. 'Parents,' 'favors bestowed'—today, I think I shall see exactly how much the Qin clan is worth!"
