Chapter 6: Such a Pure Voice
Chen Xiao swore that he was just happy to see living people because he could finally ask for directions. Along the way, Jiangbei University of the Arts had been almost completely overrun, with only the "New Humans" flooding in frantically.
Entering the campus had taken quite a bit of effort for Chen Xiao. His evolution value alone had already surpassed 200!
"B-big brother, who are you?" Zhang Ming felt a terrifying sense of oppression radiating from the young man in front of him and asked, stuttering nervously.
"Do you know which way to the library has the fewest people?"
Tang Shirou looked puzzled. "The fewest people?"
Chen Xiao corrected himself, pointing toward the New Humans in the distance. "I mean, where are those things fewest?"
Zhang Ming understood his meaning and answered earnestly, "There’s a small door on the west side of the cafeteria hall. It’s reserved for library staff, but it’s hard to get in without a key."
"Alright, thanks."
"No problem, brother, may I ask..."
*Coo-coo-roo-coo—*
A crisp crowing sound echoed. Zhang Ming and Tang Shirou looked at Li Li in confusion; hadn't she just crowed? Soon, they realized it wasn't Li Li's voice. The sound came from behind the young man. Only then did the three notice that he was carrying a burlap sack on his back, from which a bloody head was protruding.
"Ahhhhh!" Li Li shrieked in terror. This absurd scene reminded her of a horror performance called "The Little Man in the Bottle."
Chen Xiao asked politely, "Anything else to ask?"
Zhang Ming waved his hands nervously. "No, no, that's fine." He was terrified that this madman might decide to stuff him into the sack too. Of course, Li Li was the most frightened, especially since her talent was also "Dawn." She trembled uncontrollably, backing away.
"You aren't from our school. Did you come in after the disaster?" A female voice caught Chen Xiao's attention.
Chen Xiao turned around and saw a girl who made his nose feel suddenly warm. She was wearing a bright red, tight-fitting skirt that outlined her perfect curves. A pair of crystal-clear sandals stepped lightly on the ground, and her long hair flowed over her shoulders like a waterfall, contrasting with the red dress and making her skin look as white as snow. He couldn't help but sigh; that outfit was truly blinding... *Hehehe* (drooling).
Chen Xiao noticed the hem of the girl's skirt was very short. Because she kept pulling it down, the neckline became too low, revealing a patch of snow-white skin and a deep, enticing cleavage. Unwittingly, Chen Xiao felt a surge of hot blood. It felt as if a little sapling was growing rapidly!
"Damn it, my talent is betraying me!"
*Damn it all,* he thought, *didn't it say the breeding period was intermittent? Why is it acting up the moment I see a woman? Who can handle this?!*
Seeing the lust in Chen Xiao's eyes, Zhang Ming, forced to stand his ground, stepped forward and raised his ox-hoof-like fist. "Brother, we aren't to be trifled with. Think clearly—there are three of us."
Chen Xiao gave an awkward laugh and said to Tang Shirou, "Where I come from doesn't matter. What matters is that there will be more and more of those things here. Good luck."
The three of them understood exactly what kind of "people" Chen Xiao was referring to, and their expressions turned grim. Chen Xiao adjusted his breathing, but the heat in his lower body persisted. According to the talent description, the breeding period would last for an entire day! This was unbearable. Should he just take care of it himself? He shook his head; he didn't want to miss the rewards from this SSSS-level talent. He would have to take it one step at a time.
Leaving the trio, Chen Xiao followed the wall until he reached the spot the boy had mentioned. On the west side of the cafeteria stood a large iron door. It was bolted shut; normally, it would be impossible to enter without a key.
*Boom!*
Chen Xiao kicked the door open and walked in. The path to the library was very safe, with the only drawback being that it was pitch black. There wasn't a glimmer of light. Fortunately, Chen Xiao possessed the SSS-level talent "Dragon's Breath," which allowed him to sense approaching danger in advance.
As it stood, there were faint traces of energy at the end of the path—in the library. They were likely some New Humans who had wandered in by accident, or perhaps, New Humans with actual consciousness.
Pushing the library door open slightly, Chen Xiao poked his head in to scout. By the dim, blood-red moonlight, he saw New Humans wandering aimlessly in groups of two or three. Books and textbooks were soaked in blood, scattered everywhere, and corpses littered the floor.
Back outside the school, Chen Xiao had seen a faint, flickering light near the library. By the early hours of the morning, almost all the lights had gone out. In this world filled with darkness and blood, that light was particularly conspicuous—it clearly concealed something. If his guess was correct, this was the "opportunity for evolution."
Chen Xiao made his way up the stairs, clearing out one New Human after another until he reached the top floor. Three distinct, abnormal energy signatures were present right here. Under the light, everything was clear: they were on a stage-like platform, where three New Humans stood. Unlike the others, they weren't disheveled or hideous; they just stood there stiffly, motionless and strange.
As soon as Chen Xiao arrived, they all turned their heads to look at him.
"Hehehehe."
"Hehehehe."
"Hehehehehe."
The three "people" laughed in a chilling manner, baring their teeth and staring fixedly at Chen Xiao.
"Laugh at your mother's head!"
Annoyed, Chen Xiao lifted his leg and kicked at one of them. Unexpectedly, the New Human reacted with lightning speed, dodging backward.
"Hehehehehe."
"Oh?" Chen Xiao hadn't expected to encounter a New Human evolved to this degree on the very first day of the apocalypse. No wonder some of these New Humans were so monstrous—their speed was too bizarre.
"Hehehehehe."
*Bang!*
This time, Chen Xiao didn't hold back. He unleashed his maximum speed and didn't restrain his strength, taking the fight seriously.
*Boom!*
[Evolution Value +9]
The laughing New Human was instantly obliterated by the massive force, turning into a mist of blood and bone fragments. The blood was pulverized so finely it didn't even splash.
The remaining two New Humans, seemingly mindless, continued to grin and cackle on the sidelines. The scene was absurdly terrifying. The next moment, both lunged forward simultaneously. They were incredibly fast—an ambush! But Chen Xiao wasn't falling for it; he dodged both perfectly. Reaching into his clothes, he pulled out that large, blood-stained iron spike and delivered two headshots to teach them a lesson.

Having dealt with the three, Chen Xiao walked over to the light to investigate. There was a light here, but nothing else. He reached out to touch it, and his brain instantly responded:
[Evolution Opportunity: 4816/5000]
Clearly, those three had been working for someone else's gain. It seemed they were waiting for a fourth New Human to complete the requirement to unlock this evolutionary opportunity.
