Chapter 42: Marksmanship Proficiency 100%
Of course, the fundamental problem was how to deliver an incendiary bomb straight into the Blood Fiend's body.
In response, Lin Xinghai's solution was to first fire armor-piercing rounds to blast open a channel.
An incendiary bomb would follow immediately behind, tracing the exact same trajectory, thereby achieving the goal.
Naturally, Lin Xinghai also understood that his knowledge of the Blood Fiend was far from sufficient.
Therefore, he voiced this idea and asked Roger whether doing so could inflict genuine damage upon the Blood Fiend.
Upon hearing this, a peculiar expression crossed Roger's face. "Your method should theoretically be feasible, but in reality, it's completely impossible."
"Especially your proposal to hit the exact same spot with two bullets. Even if you could actually pull that off, given the Blood Fiend's recovery rate, it would never leave you with a sustained bullet path."
If it were any other mutated zombie, as long as one's marksmanship was sufficiently skilled and precise, continuously shooting the same spot to accumulate damage—let alone carving out a channel—might even punch clean through it.
The Blood Fiend was different, however. It was much like spraying gunfire at the surface of a lake; no matter how precise the aim, it was impossible to carve a "wound" into the water.
Granted, the Blood Fiend's healing speed wasn't quite as instantaneous as flowing water, but in Roger's view, it was close enough.
"It's not necessarily impossible. The Blood Fiend's wounds don't heal instantaneously; it takes at least 0.1 seconds. As long as one can grasp that time difference..."
Before Lin Xinghai could finish, Roger shook his head. "It's impossible to grasp."
To Roger, a 0.1-second recovery and instantaneous recovery were no different at all.
After a moment of thought, he added, "I simply can't cooperate with such a non-human demand of yours."
"Uh!" Lin Xinghai rubbed his nose. "I didn't say I wanted you to cooperate. I was just discussing with you whether doing this could actually damage the Blood Fiend."
Now it was Roger's turn to feel somewhat awkward. He had assumed Lin Xinghai was going to ask for his cooperation, just as he had done against the advanced zombies.
Before he could say anything, however, Lin Xinghai stated, "I'll step away for a moment to make some preparations, and I'll be right back."
With that, he activated his Extreme Speed ability and dashed off into the distance.
Roger had been right about one thing: trying to seize that 0.1-second time difference was indeed a superhuman demand.
With his current marksmanship, it was simply impossible to accomplish.
However, he had the system, which meant he could cheat!
If he boosted the proficiency of his Primary Shooting Technique to 100%, he would have the confidence to pull it off.
Cheating required blood chi, though. Following his breakthrough, he only had 3 points of blood chi remaining, and his marksmanship proficiency was at a mere 70%.
Based on the previous pattern, raising the marksmanship proficiency to 80% required 7 points of blood chi, raising it to 90% required 8 points, and raising it to 100% required 9 points.
That totaled 24 points of blood chi, meaning he was still short by 21 points.
Twenty-one points of blood chi would have been a massive amount for Lin Xinghai in the past, but things were different now.
His marksmanship was already on par with Roger's, and on top of that, he had become a genetic optimizer and even awakened a special ability.
Combining all these conditions, facing zombies—even advanced zombies—was more than enough for him to secure a victory.
With his ability activated, Lin Xinghai vanished from the mercenaries' sight in just a few bounds.
Behind a nearby building, three zombies were rushing toward this direction, attracted by the commotion of the battle.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Yet, with three successive gunshots, bloody holes appeared without exception right between their foreheads, and they collapsed backward.
Before they even hit the ground completely, a hand pressed down upon their wounds.
The next instant, the blood chi within the zombies was drained away.
Ding!
Ding!
Ding!
As three system chimes rang out, Lin Xinghai instantly gained 3 points of blood chi.
"This is amazing! It's so much faster than sneaking around collecting it." Lin Xinghai licked his lips, opened his sensory perception to the maximum, and instantly sprinted toward the next wave of zombies.
In the city center, zombies were never in short supply. Finding twenty-one zombies was an exceptionally simple task.
Thus, Lin Xinghai's hunting speed was astonishingly fast, completing the task in just over forty seconds.
Even including the time spent running back and forth, it took only about a minute.
Watching Lin Xinghai sprint right back, Roger looked somewhat bewildered.
Yet Lin Xinghai had pulled off quite a few miracles over the past two days, so Roger still held a sliver of expectation. "Have you finished your preparations?"
"Mhm!" Lin Xinghai nodded, then tapped the plus sign next to his proficiency three times consecutively.
Host: Lin Xinghai
Physique: 25 points
Strength: 21 points
Speed: 30 points
Blood Chi: 0 points
Genetic Optimization Level: 30%+
Ability: Extreme Speed (Within ten seconds, speed increases by 100%) (Energy Value: 7/10+)
Primary Shooting Technique: Proficiency 100%+
Looking at that 100% proficiency, Lin Xinghai felt an incomparable sense of gratification.
Touching the firearm in his hand, he truly felt as though it were an extension of his own arm—as if the weapon was a part of his body where he could hit whatever he pointed at without even needing to aim.
He even had the feeling that "with a gun in hand, the entire world is mine."
"Why is there still a plus sign?" After sensing his own marksmanship, Lin Xinghai noticed that a plus sign still lingered right beside the 100% proficiency.
He couldn't resist tapping it.
"Ding! Do you wish to spend 100 points of blood chi to upgrade to the Intermediate Shooting Technique?"
Glancing at the pop-up system message, Lin Xinghai desperately wanted to hurl a string of curses.
He had originally thought his marksmanship had finally graduated, only to realize he had merely graduated from elementary school...
Of course, this wasn't the time to dwell on that; the dispute between Fang Tianhe and Shen Han was nearing its conclusion.
Shen Han had already begun calling out over the communication channels for someone to pilot the mecha.
He had to act quickly. If he succeeded, everyone would be happy.
If he failed, he would obey instructions and run for his life.
At worst, he would figure out a way to protect the Heaven-Rending Mercenary Group later as a way to repay the favor.
"Old Luo, hand me your Ripper rifle. Oh, and make sure they're all loaded with armor-piercing rounds." Lin Xinghai brushed aside his distracting thoughts and looked at Roger.
At the same time, he retrieved all the incendiary bombs from the multi-purpose off-road vehicle and loaded them into the Ripper rifle he was holding.
Yes, this was his method. Trying to seize that 0.1-second time difference by relying on someone else's cooperation was simply impossible.
Even the twins probably didn't possess that level of tacit understanding, let alone the required marksmanship.
However, if he wielded dual firearms and coordinated with himself, that level of tacit understanding would be completely guaranteed.
The only question was whether his own marksmanship could actually pull it off.
And now, a 100% marksmanship proficiency—even if it was only at the primary level—gave Lin Xinghai ample confidence.
